The US's first off-shore wind turbine is being launched today off the coast of Maine. Within two weeks it's scheduled to be moored to the ocean floor and plugged into the grid.

It's just a little turbine, comparatively speaking, a prototype with an expected 20 kilowatt output. If this all goes as planned this pilot project will feature two more full size turbines with a projected output of 6 megawatts each.

There is a lot of energy potential on our northern coasts - both sides of the continent. Can we blow our way to a sustainably powered future?

Also TGIF...Smiley: grin

And ***** up the view of peoples Kennebunkport summer houses? You'd have to put the turbines in some barren fucking wasteland between Rockport and MDI. What? Castine? Oh, right. Yes, maybe this CAN work...

Kaiju World Putt-Putt Golf is slowly taking off. Kind of weird starting it in the water trap, but I guess we gotta see what the rest of the course is gonna be like.

I'm sure the French Canadian gays from Ogunquit will eventually make their way up there and do just that.

The best part about this response is that it works for either quote!

Castine is one of favorite little coastal towns.

My husband makes me watch The Alps from Above on Sunday mornings if I want to plop down in front of the tv with coffee. It's just what is sounds like, a documentary of the lands around the alps. The coastal shots often show windmills, in fact, they seem to like to include windmills as part of the scenery.

Maybe we should paint boobs on the turbines.

I know nothing of it, actually. Researching it marginally just now it seems to have a median household income of 60 grand and yet dozens of $1M+ real estate listings. I assume it's the normal coastal town with a rich summer population serviced by a poorish year round population. Sounds awful.

Towns like that are not too bad as long as there is at least one place to work that keeps you away from the tourists and summer folk.

I don't know, if Vegas makes it mandatory for all prostitutes to pedal generator bikes during BJ sessions they could make a lot of energy/progress.

It's the home of the Maine Maritime Academy. That's the only real business in town. The area doesn't even draw many tourists. I think because by land it's a bit cumbersome to get to. Historically there has been lots happening on the peninsula as it's the best strategic spot to guard the whole Penobscot Bay.

We need a type of generator that charges based on thrusts per minute.
