Watching Tornado coverage in Oklahoma City of the Tornado that touch down in Moore OK. Reports of it being 2 mile wide and class 4 if not class 5 :(

Really heart breaking hearing about the destruction.

I guess the wind really does come sweeping down the plain. I'm terrified of the elephant eye high corn disaster that's bound to occur following this event.

An update on our Oklahoma Admin, Darqflame is safe, all family accounted for, but no internet or services at this time. Edit, or she could have got internet back literally 30 seconds after I posted this, sure. but it was accurate at the time!

Also, I can't spell accounted...

The storm system just hit here a few minutes ago. 800 miles away and it's still pretty nasty.

If we only sent more guns to Benghazi to prevent cloning of the IRS.

I'm somewhat surprised that with something this destructive, there are "only" 24 deaths.

From what I've heard, the folks of Oklahoma City are wise in the ways of tornado safety and most people have storm shelters (and the wisdom to use them).

Listened to the news conference with the mayor of Oklahoma City this afternoon. Sounds like the death counts are really hit and miss right now. It sounds as though a number of dead were taken directly to funeral homes rather than through the city/county coroner so counts are still on-going.

Doesn't help that apparently their hospital got flattened.

Oklahoma City's coroner doesn't work in the hospital.

Listening to NPR this morning, they were interviewing this guy who lived with his wife and foster children across from one of the schools that got hit hard. He woke up just as the cone was forming, and ran to take refuge in the school.

Their house was completely flattened, but they're all safe.

But all I could think of was that those 5 foster kids are almost certainly going to be taken away from that couple now (no home and all). And it sounds, from the way they and the kids were talking, that they were one of the foster families that actually gave a **** about the kids in their care. They had five, apparently, but it sounded like at least some of them were related. And keeping siblings together in the foster system is rare. Sucks.

I'm not particularly up to date on foster family rules and regulations and such, but I don't think Act of God would really disqualify them. A cursory, pathetically lazy in fact, search of Google doesn't really bring up anything though.
