This debate about women's equality is not so long gone from this forum, but long enough that I couldn't find the appropriate thread to tack it on to.

So wallah, a new thread for a new week.

This article is about the Women in America Report that was put together by the White House and released last month.

An excerpt....

Quote:
women's gains in education have outpaced men's over the past 40 years. Yet in the workforce women are not reaching the heights of their chose industries. Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook and author of Lean In, has brought national attention to the bleak numbers: In the U.S., women hold only 14 percent of the top corporate jobs, Sandberg writes, and that number has not changed in a decade.

One might assume that this is the case everywhere in the world......

Apparently other emerging countries (particularly Brazil, India, Russia, Chine) are finding plenty of women to do the very very hard work of getting well-paid.

The article suggests the US is suffering from gender fatigue. I think we're suffering from the old white penile complex.

They only asked women. Oversampling.

On the plus side they're fast becoming a minority.

The irony that my husband noted is that women tend to work harder when promoted, while men tend to work not quite so hard. For example, once a woman accepts a tenured position at a university, she'll tack on another couple committee assignments and volunteer for more stuff. Whereas the male professors, as a general rule, use tenure as an excuse to drop a lot of their commitments and focus more on research.

This is a generality, but it also matches my own experience in the small to mid sized corporate world as well.

Well, apparently copy editing is a wide-open field.

Pretty stupid of them. You should only do slightly more work than the next person, not tack on a mountain of work and hope for the best.

I've decided women, in general, have a harder time putting profit before people. Not a characteristic that will get you into the CEO pool. Smiley: sly

'Cept hookers. It's all like "C'mon, baby, how about a freebie out of love for your fellow man?" and she's all like "No way, buddy. $15 or get lost."

She was pretty bulky. That might explain the $15 price tag.

She's all about your best interest. She knows if you get it free you won't have any appreciation for love-making.

Oh, another story I heard today was that frequent sex helps slow the aging process and has some sort of health benefit.

Fap away folks.....

Put family first, profits before people, take away the social expectation that you earn as much money as possible, and the social stigma for failing to do so. Now you have someone who's head might be on straight, but is almost guaranteed to make less money and get fewer promotions.
