First it was the Netherlands in 2001 now it's New Zealand in 2013.
Is the world starting to accept that this is the 21st century?

I've never actually seen Xena but I guess it would/should end up like a live action version of Queen's Blade.

Today in SSM news, France votes to legalize same-sex marriage.

Perhaps more interesting though is Nevada votes to begin the process of removing the SSM prohibition from its state constitution
Las Vegas Sun wrote:
Following more than an hour of riveting and personal floor speeches — during which one state senator publicly announced for the first time he is gay — the Nevada Senate voted 12-9 to begin the process of repealing the gay marriage ban from the state constitution.

Only one Republican, Sen. Ben Kieckhefer, joined with Democrats to vote in favor of Senate Joint Resolution 13, which would repeal the ban on gay marriage and replace it with a requirement that the state recognize all marriages regardless of gender.

It's a lengthy process and wouldn't come up for a final public referendum vote until 2016 but you've got to start somewhere.

And coming soon to Rhode Island...

Quote:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The five Republicans in the Rhode Island Senate are backing gay marriage as a legislative committee prepares for a pivotal vote on the issue.

The Senate Republican Caucus announced Tuesday that its members will support legislation allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry. The senators cite their support for liberty and limited government and say same-sex couples deserve the same marriage rights as anyone.

While the GOP caucus only holds five of the Senate's 38 seats, its support is another indication of the growing support for gay marriage in Rhode Island, now the only New England state that doesn't allow gay marriage.

The bill has already passed the House and the Senate Judiciary Committee will decide Tuesday whether to forward the measure to the full Senate for a debate.

If being trendy is what it takes to make progress on the civil rights front, I'm ok with it.

Delaware's house approved a marriage equality bill by a narrow vote today as well.

Delaware: still insisting it's a state, when no one believes it.
