Ahh gameshark, I would have never gotten Mew without you.

Cheat codes were for after you beat the game how ever many times and you wanted to turn it into your little sandbox to play in. Also for the rare exceptions where the game was unplayable without the cheat codes *cough* Outpost *cough*. Smiley: rolleyes

So true in those days, now with the wifi it's relatively easy to get every poke without creating it.... but the poke community uses action replay heavily for cloning. I think they should just add a legit, in-game cloner, since people don't want to trade rare stuff if they can't keep a copy of it.

That's too easy. Something like Mr. Bones' Wild Ride is way better.

They also need to make Pokemon breeding not completely retarded. Absolutely no one in the competitive scene does vanilla breeding, it's all about importing pokemon you create from scratch on your PC. IVs are nuts.

The only mod I added to Minecraft was a Borderlands skin. I have no idea how to implement those things. But after updating and exploring last night, I'm going to have to use a "get yer **** back after death" mod.

Smiley: smile The little people got so happy when the roller-coaster got deadly. In the version I had you could even kill innocent by-standers if they got in the way of a person flying off the coaster.

It was pretty fun to play headgames with The Sims people too.

I've never gotten the whole cheating accomplishment thing myself. Years ago, I remember looking up some tips for beating a mission in GTA3. Everything I found started "enter the code for a tank".

Sadly, I never got into Rollercoaster Tycoon, but I know I would have created death traps and suffering instead of playing the game. I mean, my fondest memories of Ultima 7 were after I was done for the night. Saved the game, then would go out to see how many people I could slaughter until I finally died.

Worst part is that it was really easy to tell if the animal would die before even opening the book. If it had a Newberry Award, Rover dies.

Eh, I don't know about that, I don't know anyone who competes that uses pokegened pokes, most people are using RNGed pokes. It might be just the people I trade with/board I trade on but people are generally 100% fine with cloning but don't really like hacks. RNGing is all about getting perfect pokes by changing the in game time to hit the seed right and beat the random number generator. I know a lot of RNGers - one of the best ones I know doesn't even own an action replay, they need other people to clone their creations, so they are creating their pokes 100% legit using nothing but the game cart.

Though people seem to be more okay with editing too. Meh, anyway the community is quite divided on these things.

Either way you're completely right - it's still not a level playing field, cause obviously whether the top competitors are getting their pokes from RNGing or pokegen it isn't really a level playing field. I think the better solution would be for the game to automatically make all pokes in a competition have perfect IVs. Then it is really all about strategy/moves/luck/EV training vs. about abusing the in game mechanics/hacking to get perfect pokemon.

Of course people will still cheat to avoid the EV training because that is also tedious.

Anyway, I've done lots of breeding and it isn't actually too hard to get 3 IVs perfect. I only get 4 and 5 IVs perfect very rarely though, and never 6, though I am using a Korean ditto that only has 5/6 IVs perfect. I have a (probably hacked) English ditto with perfect IVs but I like the boost to shiny chances from using the Korean ditto. That said, I've never bred a shiny -.-

ALSO, I finally won a few battles on the GTS after getting a good team (all perfect IVs/metagame friendly/ and 2/3 shiny, which is unrelated to being good competitively but nice nonetheless)

I just never bothered. I knew there was a huge Minecraft modding community out there, but I usually prefer to play games as-is. Plus, the challenge of Minecraft (i.e. without cheating) was part of what made it so different from modern games.

Well sure, but if dying 10 biomes away is going to make you not want to play, teleporting yourself there to recover items or giving them to yourself from the console seems ethically ok.

Agreed.

As an aside, one thing that ticks me off about many newer western games is the lack of a sufficient difficulty slider. Please let me actually set a reasonably hard difficulty, it's incredibly frustrating when an Otherwise great game prevents you from pushing up to and beyond your current skill level.

Back in the day, I would go back and play the harder level or get the 100% completion. Now, I'm so far behind in my gaming, I'm just happy to beat it.

That's hardly limited to western or new games.

Well when I preordered the last installment, everyone who showed up and lined up was like 20-30 so... /shrugs. Don't underestimate the nostalgia force bro.
