Someone needs to make a 23 minute feminist rant about this thread, preferably while wearing a bikini.

TL;DR While there is some legitimate cause for concern, a lot of times people are looking to be offended and get off on getting angry.

This is feminism in a nutshell as far as I can tell.
Feminism in video games is one thing. Feminism in life is all together another matter.

If I speak up because I get paid less than my male counterpart am I just a feminist **** looking to be offended?

If my daughter isn't given the same level of instruction as my son in science and math classes, should i just wave it off?

The first question should not be "Is this because {insert feminist rhetoric here}?", but rather the simple question of why are two individuals being treated differently.

I'd wager that more often than not the answer is because they are different people, and not, as a lot of feminists would like to believe, because they are different genders.

Because no other situation is enough like the current one to warrant an accurate comparison anyway. Everyone is so unique and there's such a diversity of situations there's just not enough relevant situations to compare, making any extension of data tenuous at best.

Smiley: wink

I agree. So lets close the gender wage gap and stop objectifying women. Win/win!

I'd put together a long post about this but it makes me really angry and takes some of the joy out of videogames for me.

OMG WAR ON MEN! Smiley: mad

On the subject of feminism in videogames the thread title got me thinking about a stereotypical role-reversed video game. Something where the female protagonist goes out of her way to save some male character, love interest, kind of thing. Then I remembered my kids have been really into WALL-E lately, and the wife just finished ranting about how incompetent WALL-E is and how those kinds of men bug her to no end. Suddenly something that seemed like an interesting concept in my mind went up in smoke. Smiley: lol

They are different people.

And when you average out all the wages of all the different people at all the different education levels, women earn about 70% of what men do (in the US) across the board.

This is fact.

You can argue about why they make less; Maybe they don't work at jobs that are worth as much. Maybe they have to take time out of their ladder climbing to have babies. Maybe they're even paid less simply because they have boobs. But to simply declare that the whole deal is made up by feminists is stupid...and sexist.
