This made no sense to me initially, as there's an Ikea every 7 or 8 feet in southern California.

There's one in San Diego, and it's in the touristy section of town that most natives avoid like the plague. I've actually never walked into an Ikea store in my life. Funny thing is my friends also mentioned Ikea when I said I didn't know what lingonberries were. Honestly, it would never occur to me to go to a furniture store to eat food, but apparently they have a restaurant. Go figure!

Then, I remembered that Ikea didn't open in the US until the mid 80's and correlating that with the odd temporal warp you seem to be stuck in led me to believe it is actually 1983 in your world.

Or it's that they have really cheap and crappy furniture. I pretty much went straight from cinderblocks and planks to higher quality stuff, skipping Ikea entirely. I don't own anything from Ikea and have no plans to ever do so. Do people really go to these stores that often? Why?

Free day care. Literally. The sofa I'm currently sitting on is from Ikea. It's pretty much identical to one we had from Pottery Barn that cost probably 8 times as much. While some Ikea products are particle board junk, many are just functional cheap easy things to buy that you'd be stupid to spend more money for. Also the store is amusing, it's like a warehouse staged to be Rent (that's a musical that will be popular in 15 of your years).

No, it's a total niche store no one has heard of.

I know people who've owned Ikea furniture. Hell. I've helped assemble Ikea furniture. I've just never physically been inside one of their stores. For all I know, there's a stork involved in getting the furniture from the store to the living room of the person who's paying me in beer to help put it together.

I've not been to an Ikea. My sphere of influential experience overlaps gbajis.

The lingonberry - Ikea connection is lost on me.

My desk and chair set is from Ikea. $400 for the kit and kaboodle, although I need a different chair soon ish.

I was going to just have them mail it but the shipping would have been another $250, so I drove to Atlanta to get my stuff, and had my chair hanging out of my Accord's trunk on I-85, roped in rather precariously.

It's like regular flour, only it's been mixed with PEDs.

Buckwheat isn't made with wheat at all. So, if you want a gluten free pancake try that. They're not bad, but really dry. Soakers.

I had to make pancakes tonight (I had a handful of them little wild maine blueberries left to throw in).

I just returned from the grocery store and they had those. There was also a box from the same manufacturer of some sort of powdered sugar on nacho chips looking thing that began with a C. It looked like a mouth injury waiting to happen. I didn't buy any, Nexa convinced me to make Jambalaya instead of pancakes (with a convincing "you know where they eat pancakes today? England! You know who loves pancakes? Protestants. William the III LOVED them. You know what they eat in Cork in your ancestral homeland today? Jambalaya. That's right, mutton Jambalaya. Fine, they don't. They eat whatever they boiled for 7 hours, but still pancakes are the food of the oppressor!"

Then she said "Fuck King Billy, Free Bobby Sands!" and drank a Guinness. It was pretty convincing, really.

Blueberry and or Huckleberry pancakes involving fresh berries from the bushes outside are the best pancakes in existance. Aside from that I tend to keep them simple.

I had a deli chicken sandwich and Ruffles potato chips for dinner tonight.

I also don't have to give anything up for the next 2 months.

Technically, I'm giving up ice cream for lent. Not because I actually am but because my mom gives up sweets during lent and I see her once a week at my sisters house for game night (Cataan, rail games, etc). Ice cream is usually served, but we all go without during lent so as not to be pricks eating ice cream in front of our mom. Since that's the only time or place I eat ice cream other than birthday parties, it means I don't eat ice cream at all during that time period. Which really isn't that much of a sacrifice given that I wouldn't normally be eating ice cream anyway except that they put a bowl in front of me each week. So, um, what was I saying?

A semi-athiest is possibly quite a few so-called Baptists in the south. You know, the ones that go to church "just in case".
