Linky.

This could just turn normal people into a crazy environmentalist types. Some brewers are lining up against fracking out of fear their water supplies could be tainted affecting both the quality and safety of their product. It's the old chemical gets into the water table thing with the added twist of ******** up the brewing process. No idea how good the beers these places produce actually are of course, and that could make all the difference with the how much should I care thing.

Still the stakes have been raised obviously. Place your bets now:

Who wins?
Fracking:7 (35.0%)
Beer:13 (65.0%)
Total:20

Hallelujah. Finally some money that's *against* fracking. Allowing natural gas extraction to be exempt from environmental protection laws is criminal upon itself. Maybe all the measly civilians that have had their personal water supply affecting their crops, animals, and health will get some relief.

Well the farming money hasn't won against tracking, and they theoretically provide, you know, your food. There's a lot of political desperation invested in energy independence... especially "old school" energy.

So I take it that fracking is this news cycle's buzzword, huh.

Fracking didn't used to happen because it was a relatively very expensive way to get fossil fuels out of the ground. Now that easily extracted "sweet crude oil" is played out enough it doesn't meet world demand, and so oil prices have risen enough, the "too expensive to access" fossil fuels are now being accessed by fracking.

Unfortunately with present methods fracking can contaminate drinking water/farm land with

toxic chemicals...including benzene, methane and even diesel fuel
. Like everything, methane has a poisonous dose. A cow fart in the in the air isn't going to kill you. Concentrated contamination of fracking byproducts has killed livestock and sent humans to hospital or their doctors. So yes, fracking is the buzzword of the news cycle.

Ommegang is owned by Duvel Moortgat, one of the original investors in the brewery as a way to promote Belgian style beers in the US and as a way to distribute Duvel and the other brands owned by Duvel Moortgat Aside from Duvel and Ommegang they own De Koninck, Maredsous, Liefmans, Vedett and d'Achouffe, so there's some serious money there.

Both Ommegang and Brooklyn brewery make some seriously good beers. Not the white whales that everyone and their grandmother is looking for but definitely good enough that many people would be seriously pissed off.

You think the American farming industry gives two ***** about chemicals touching their crops? As long as they're growing, they're good. Heck, it's just another opportunity for Monsanto to engineer chemical X7SSF82993F81T0-003 and borax resistant corn!
