In moments, big snow storm Nemo will be bearing down on the northeast seaboard.

In preparation, I got bagels (and cream cheese).

Nemo seems like a tropical storm name. I might have called it Baldur.

New Englanders ready?

It already passed MI. It was underwhelming, locally. Only dropped about 3 or 4 inches total and it is all powder, not the 12 inches of sloppy wet stuff they were calling for.

Supposedly this grand storm is a collision of the one coming east across the country from the great lakes with another coming north up the coast from Georgia.

It was just upgraded. They're predicting 2+ feet of snow throughout much of the area. It's coming down pretty good already. I think I may have to blow out of work soon. Smiley: grin I love storms.

I'm so jealous. It's going to hit 75 here today Smiley: frown

Edit: Nemo must be affecting Florida as well, it's not going to hit 80!

They've already shut down a bunch of stuff in RI and are expecting 1-2 feet of snow. I just wonder if they're using the Subway foot or the international foot in their predictions.

Anyway, I'm all set. There's a bunch of food in the house, and plenty of water. Also, booze. My Kindle is charged, so unless we lose power for a month, I'll at least have some books to keep me entertained.

This is brilliant. The Weather Channel needs to trademark each unit of depth.

"We said it would be Twenty Inchesâ„¢ of snow, not 20"! Twenty Inchesâ„¢ could mean anything!"

Hannah's school was cancelled last night. So far, no real snow for us. I have affixed a yardstick to one of our garden beds on the grounds of Stately 'Roo Manor. Hannah and I will take pictures as the snow accumulates. Most of the models show us pretty much right in the center of the highest snow accumulation area, so we're hoping we'll get snow to the top of the yardstick. Hannah was pretty disappointed that the yardstick didn't have centimeters, but I informed her that the Orange of Home Depot didn't run and they weren't about to offer measurement in dirty commie metric.

That's a neat idea. If you put a tripod down or otherwise fix the camera position, you could make a neat little time-lapse video.

I slipped on some black ice on Wednesday and ended up with a high ankle sprain, so I'm working from home. Clearly, if I'm not capable of walking around when there's only a tiny bit of patchy ice out, then I've got no chance out and about today.

Seconded on the idea of naming winter storms in Norse. "Jörmungandr is bearing down on Connecticut!" Smiley: um

They have unlimited metersticks at the Cambridge olive garden, so you can go sate your appetite for the Système international.

It's been snowing here since about 7am. There's 3-4 inches already in the Portland area complete with a big ol' multi-car pile-up on 295 in Falmouth.

So when do we get to speculate whether or not this next super-storm is due to global warming?

No, no. Those are "meterlong" sticks. Nowhere does that reference an actual measurement.

Implying that Olive Gardens bread sticks are anywhere near a meter long, leads me to generalize that the male species has a genetic disposition to over compensate for length.

Hmm, not a bad idea, but would make taking calls, web surfing, and texting people much harder with my camera.

You could just fix another yardstick and center your phone on top of it each time you go outside.

We won't be going outside. While there are fairly large parts of our yard we can't see from the house, the garden beds are right outside our dining room window.

How much picture taking do you do in an average day? Apparently, I'm not a shutterbug (or a parent) cause my camera pretty much sits around for weeks or months at a time between events worthy enough to bother taking pictures. Don't you have cell phones for day to day picture taking stuff?

You could also just set the tripod up and then place the camera on it each time you take a picture of the yardstick and snow. Unless your average daily picture taking also requires a tripod of course.

Yeah. Maybe should have actually read that. Ok.... You don't have an actual camera camera? You know, one you don't make phone calls on and text people from?

Nope, and I don't pay for things by check, drive a Pontiac, or fear invasion by the USSR. Why? Because it's not 1983.

Well, I cleared the driveway twice with the shovel, since I usually like to shovel, but the last time I went out, I used the snow blower, and cleared the driveways of my elderly neighbors. I'll probably get out there again before bed so it's not terrible in the morning. The news says we're at about 3" per hour.
