I thought Clinton doesn't step down until today?

I figured she set it up as a final "fuck you" to Congress.

Not final I think (wistfully perhaps), but congress has a short memory, so it's all good.

Supposedly, he's being reluctant to make another run which has the GOP in a bit of a panic since without him their chance of taking the seat is approximately nil.

For all I know, he's just playing hard to get. Or he wants to sit this one out and run for governor later on.

Boston Globe wrote:
With time running short, Washington Republicans have begun a “full court press’’ to persuade an increasingly reluctant Scott Brown to run in the special election to replace John F. Kerry, say two leading Massachusetts GOP figures.

The eleventh-hour effort, coordinated by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, comes as those familiar with Brown’s deliberations are becoming convinced that he will not run and instead will look for a job in the private sector.

The committee has lined up some of Brown’s former Senate colleagues to mount the campaign to persuade him to run. They are telling Brown he is the party’s best and probably only hope to win the June 25 election in a state that traditionally sends Democrats to Washington, said those GOP figures, who Âdeclined to comment on the record. Brown will probably disclose his decision in the next few days.
[...]
Brown has been politically inactive and has raised no money since his defeat in November. Since he left the Senate last month, Brown has spent part of his time continuing his work as the assistant to the chief legal officer for the National Guard Bureau, at the Pentagon. His Âincome has dropped dramatically since he left the Senate, adding to the allure of the private sector.

Brown’s silence on the Senate race has created anxiety in Republican leadership ranks. The timeline for making a decision is narrowing, given the need to gather 10,000 certified signatures from voters within four weeks, which could be a hurdle if the GOP is forced to rely on a less-known backup candidate.

Apparently I hadn't been listening to the radio very well, because up until earlier this week I thought John McCain was the one moving into Hilary's seat.

Those Johns, they're all the same to me.

I visited Istanbul last January, and it was really cool, and at least superficially friendly to Americans, so it's kinda sad to see all the violence in Turkey that's been happening since. (Granted, the unrest has been almost exclusively in central and eastern Turkey, not Istanbul). Although it also makes me glad I got to go there before it started becoming less safe.

He's in an awkward position for some inside baseball state political stuff. The Democratic Primary is a bit of a squeeze play this time. If Brown doesn't run, Ed Markey likes wins, who would be a weakish candidate against Brown. He's a machine guy, the prototype emasculate liberal elite. John Kerry without the charisma. Really. If Brown does decide to run, Stevie Lynch probably wins the primary and Brown loses 90% of the white Catholic vote and the election by 20. He could probably beat Markey, but it's not like he can wait until after the primary to decide to run or not.

Close.

In December 2007, Markey became the first US politician to utilize the medium of Second Life, through which he addressed the delegates of the UNFCCC in Bali as part of OneClimate's Virtual Bali event.

That's the kind of guy we are dealing with. Probably because addressing them in person would have led to mass suicide.

Former Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) will not run for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by John Kerry, a source tells the Boston Herald.

Washington Post: "Brown's decision leaves Republicans without a top candidate for the seat held by Kerry... On the Democratic side, longtime Rep. Ed Markey is the frontrunner, but he faces a challenge from fellow Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch, who is much more conservative."

Rubio won't make it through the primaries, or run, likely. It's too early to even contemplate nominees with any degree of seriousness, but you'd have put a few guys ahead of Rubio. You know, white ones. The GOP is incredibly racist, remember.

You know when people say "Well, I have a friend who is xxx", they are trying not to look racist/etc." If the Republican party were dumb enough to elect Sarah Palin to "win the woman's vote", surely a "well-liked" Hispanic would be in favor of "winning the Hispanic vote". That has been the Republican's goal since the election night. They have literally said "EFF uraboday, we need dem Spanish folk!" Think about the change of heart with the immigration reform.

Sarah Palin wasn't elected to be vice president, she was selected by a couple guys. McCain's nomination was wrapped up in all but the convention when she was announced.

I actually debated on using that word for that very reason, then I looked it up.

Edit: She was a last ditch effort to win over votes. There was too much media favor for Obama and Clinton.

Well, it is the wait your turn party, but it's hard to tell who's turn it might be at this point. Jeb probably has a good shot, but why would he retire as King of Florida to take a less powerful job?
