The President yesterday outlined some immigration reform stuff - it's been getting bandied about for a the last couple days, but this is what he publicly came out with yesterday.
CNN wrote:
The president specified three pillars of immigration reform: better enforcement of immigration laws, providing a path to citizenship for the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants already in the country, and reforming the legal immigration system.

For more specifics, here is the Bipartisan Framework for Comprehensive Immigration Reform but forth by the Senate (there are four pillars).

I'm all for getting more tax-paying peeps legally into the country - base broadening and all that. The concern of some is that this so-called amnesty may draw in more additional illegal immigrants (presumably there was in increase in illegal immigrants after 1986 amnesty deal).

Is this proposal passable, doable, and will it make for a better immigration system?

I like the parts about trying to get more smart people to come/stay here. Regardless of what they do with the flood of non-skilled workers across the southern border, it'd be nice to see that addressed.

Until someone can come up with a real definition of "secure" for the borders, that talk is bullshit. A commission of governors, attorney generals, etc from southwestern states to decide? Really? The border is secure when someone like Jan "Papers please, 'citizen'" Brewer says it's secure and the rest of the proposal can't move forward until then?

Expect that to be the major sticking point.

I was a bit amused at Rubio trying to take all the credit for this. I heard him on four separate radio programs between yesterday afternoon and this morning on a massive charm offensive to sell this plan and let everyone know it's HIS plan Smiley: laugh
