Last Wednesday my husband had a stroke. At first we thought it wasn't a bad one, but then he took a turn for the worse. Today he had surgery and had part of his brain removed since it was damaged. His 43rd birthday was Monday and he spent it in ICU. Right now he's back in the ICU and on a respirator, in bad shape. So bad the docs won't let me see him. The next three to five days are crucial.

Anyway, I've been typing at you guys for a while now. Some of you for years. Thought I'd mention it.

Merry Freekin' Christmas.

Luckily, this hospital is the "stroke hospital" around here. Nice that's it's 3 minutes away from my house, too.

And don't feel bad if you don't know what to say. I know know, either. But I do know that people need to stop asking me how I'm doing because I'm lying through my teeth. I'm NOT doing ok and I'm putting on a front so you (meaning the damn family) won't feel bad that you don't know what to do for me.

And now I have to do some laundry, take care of the damn cat, THEN I'm going to space out for a bit. Or drink wine. Or both.

Send this in a text to your family. Get someone else's ass to take care of the cat and do the laundry for you! That's what they're there for! That's what they want to do to help! It's a small thing but you'll appreciate it just as much as they'll be able to appreciate doing their itty bitty part to help.

I wish I could have recorded what happened today, haha. Since he's more alert, he's trying to communicate with us. Trouble is, we suck at charades where your hands are covered in mittens. His mother and I tried and tried to figure out what he was trying to tell us, but we never did. At least I don't think we did.
