Last Wednesday my husband had a stroke. At first we thought it wasn't a bad one, but then he took a turn for the worse. Today he had surgery and had part of his brain removed since it was damaged. His 43rd birthday was Monday and he spent it in ICU. Right now he's back in the ICU and on a respirator, in bad shape. So bad the docs won't let me see him. The next three to five days are crucial.

Anyway, I've been typing at you guys for a while now. Some of you for years. Thought I'd mention it.

Merry Freekin' Christmas.

Thanks guys. Sitting here now trying to decide if I stay home today and recharge the batteries, or I go and be with him. He won't know I'm there, but I'll know it and I'll feel better. But on the other hand, I'm wiped out... gah.

I'm sure he'd want you well rested rather than staying there when he's not even aware. Go home and get some sleep.

And *hugs* I'll be praying for a full and speedy recovery for him.

Doctors are finding new ways to treat strokes every day, and the brain has a remarkable ability to suprise us even in the face of damage. Hang in there, we're all pulling for you both. Hope he gets well soon!

Luckily, this hospital is the "stroke hospital" around here. Nice that's it's 3 minutes away from my house, too.

And don't feel bad if you don't know what to say. I know know, either. But I do know that people need to stop asking me how I'm doing because I'm lying through my teeth. I'm NOT doing ok and I'm putting on a front so you (meaning the damn family) won't feel bad that you don't know what to do for me.

And now I have to do some laundry, take care of the damn cat, THEN I'm going to space out for a bit. Or drink wine. Or both.
