I was wrong about who would win the election. I stand by patiently to await the board's decision on what my sig should include.

As to the import of what this election means, it'll be very interesting to see what lessons Obama takes from the results and does with them.

On a sidenote, how many electoral votes did Obama get 4 years ago? Looks like he's heading for 332 now.

Edit: Oh, meant to post this in the other thread. Ah well, works here too.

There have been a bunch of talking heads on fox saying that the GOP can't keep being the party of No.

I'm curious as to how much people will weight this as an Obama win versus a GOP loss. I think it was a winnable election for a GOP candidate, but they picked the wrong one and then ran a poor campaign with him.

I thought this, also, but it very likely is inaccurate. The Obama GOTV machine was the real thing, not just lucky the first time. Romney didn't run a perfect campaign, but the demographics are not good for the GOP for Presidential elections. If dark skinned fellows turn out the Democrats win the next ten elections unless the GOP moderates it's positions on immigration and other issues. You can't be the party of old white guys and win in places like Colorado and Virginia and Ohio anymore. That's not going to get better anytime soon. Unless we start deporting anchor babies. Seriously though, immigration is slowly killing the GOP, I can see why they are such quivering whine holes about it.

According to Shawn Trendy (sp?) from RCP on the radio this morning, white voter turn-out was way down this election. Minorities didn't vote in significantly greater raw numbers, but they made up a larger percentage because the white voter base Romney was relying on stayed home.

I thought I heard somewhere last night that this is the first time a candidate got 60% of the white male vote (Romney) & lost the election.

It's funny, when we went and early voted last week, I saw maybe 50 other people there. 90% of them were paired up (as in couples, mostly white and older), there were two people there aiding two different blind people (the school for the blind is nearby), and then a few duets of ladies with a child in tow (these 6 people were black.) I think there was 1 or 2 single black men there as well. But really, predominately, it was couples. Older, white couples. It was hard for me to imagine these men voting Romney with their wives in tow, or even the two of them showing up early to vote for opposing candidates. Eh, regardless, it's over, I'm glad I didn't waste too much anxiety on it. Gobama.

Or you know, maybe they can man-up, pass by the loop-holes, pay the taxes owed on their wealth and sleep soundly at night knowing they're contributing equitably to the economic health of our country.

Just to be clear, "wealth" by your standards is qualified as "more than homeless people", right?

Interestingly, Obama cleaned up the Asian vote. Are they still mad at the Republicans for that whole Lincoln railroad thing or what?
