Our voting system doesnt allow it.

I used to vote 'green' but then I took a bullet to the knee.

Only just noticed, and don't feel like checking everyone's answers, but did anyone *not* get over 50% match with "American Voters"? Hmmm....

Was that the Christian Science Monitor one? Because that one had me as a Republican as well. Come to think of it the one on the Libertarian website claimed I was a Libertarian, and one I found on one of the left-wing blogs my wife frequents had me as a solid Democrat.

I'm sensing a theme...

Depending on the audience, your answers change wildly? Are you Mitt Romney? Smiley: eek

No. Smiley: motz

But apparently I'm extremely eager to see the Republicans take the White House, and to see a second Obama term, and to break the two-party system at it's core.

Yay! Smiley: yippee

I got bored and input my best, honest representation of Varus' views and got 23%, which tells me it's accurate enough..

Given the wide range of results in terms of percentage agreement with different politicians, it just seemed odd. Given the apparent methodology being used, you'd think that if one guy gets say 90% Obama 10% Romney, and another gets 90% Romney 10% Obama, they could not *both* match "American Voters" by over 50%. Unless both Romney and Obama share more positions in common with American Voters than they disagree on, but then you'd think that you'd always get more than 50% for one no matter how high the other is. But that doesn't appear to be the case.

It's not important enough for me to go digging through all the results to figure out, but I thought it interesting enough to point out.

Considering the vast majority of US voters are probably a great deal closer to the center aisle than our political system is, I'd say it's not that surprising at all. Honestly, that statistic isn't that interesting. We have no clue to what extent we are considered "close". I said I was pro-choice, and I said that it was extremely important to me. Someone else might have said they were fine with abortion in cases of rape and incest, but that the issue wasn't important to them. Are we grouped together as similar?

No way of knowing.

Either way, if the pool of voters is going to be a bell curve along the positions, it shouldn't be too surprising if most of us end up with over 50% shared positions.

Since they're more than two candidates to divide choices among, there were few questions that distinguished Romney and Obama not from themselves but from other candidates. Not every question may have pertained to every candidate either.

And when it comes to Romney, it's really important what day this questionnaire was created.

Like I said. It looks like they use a slightly different methodology when determining how similar someone is to "American Voters" than to any given candidate. I don't feel like looking too deeply into the guts of it though.

Oh. I did notice one interesting (and conspiratorial!) thing when drilling down through the choices to see why a given rate was given. Now, maybe this was my imagination, or an outlier (cause I only checked one set and noticed this in one case), but when Obama and someone else both gave the same answer I gave, it awarded it to Obama. Again, I didn't feel like digging into more cases to see if this happened all the time, but it could explain why people who have high Obama scores have low Romney scores, but those who have high Romney scores have pretty decent Obama scores as well.

Edit: I should say this isn't the case all the time. There are certainly some high Obama scores with decent Romney scores as well. But there are several high Obama scores with very low Romney scores, but I couldn't find a single case of the opposite.

Well, one would assume that its a percentage of likely votes polled, so its commpletely possible that a bunch of them were crazy like that. That, and the optional answers for those questions make it impossible to really capture the sheer extremism and silliness behind the views of varus, crazylegs, etc.
