I think Obama wants to come out swinging this time, but his ability to do so hinges on the questions being asked and whether he can topic jump appropriately.
Both candidates will make pie-in-the-sky claims about giving "the middle class" more government benefits with absolutely no downside or effect on the deficit, and call each other liars a few dozen times in the process.

Drilling for gas here doesn't guarantee it won't be exported to somewhere else that can pay for it in euros.
