No no no, only one person can "possess" the weapon at a time. So logically, what this implies is that you have to be in possession of your own version of the robber's weapon, so that the two of you are equally matched. He has a bat? Then you get to use a bat. Etc. etc.
I sincerely hope that that's the working interpretation of the law. Because if so, I'd start breaking into peoples' houses armed with a swordfish. Don't have a swordfish to counter me with? Then sorry, I'll be taking your big screen.
