This will probably close the gap in the polls back into the margin of error, IMO

Probably not. There are really very few swayable voters this cycle.

I don't get how anyone "wins" these things, honestly.

Not be the guy who loses.

I think the main takeaway for me was that Jim Lehrer lost. And the moderator needs a louder microphone. And probably a gong.

Lehrer sucked. That's not the reason Obama sucked but Lehrer did a pretty poor job.

He was bad, he didn't make them actually answer the questions, and essentially it was them just repeating the same 3 points over and over.

Obama:
My plan adds up using math yours does not.
My Health Care plan is going to reduce costs when it goes into effect, you should know its a copy of yours.
My goal is the same as it has been for 4 years focus on middle America first.

Romney:
You don't know how my plan works because I haven't given anyone any actual details!
Your health reform is costing middle America more money even though it hasn't actually started yet!
My goal no longer includes a 4 trillion dollar tax cut, didn't you get the memo.

As far as who sucked and didn't, I said it last night.

Obama sucked in a sense of personality, he seemed condescending and distanced from the discussion, Romney came out way ahead in this regard he was much more personable I think.

However,

Romney had no real points, he offered no insight into what he was actually going to do. he hit his buzz words, he ball parked his ideas again, but still offered no details onto exactly how he was going to accomplish his goals. Obama had took the advantage as far as policy points was concerned I think, he detailed his points, said what he was going to do, and how he was going to pay for it, or cut it.

In the end, depending on how you vote depends on who won. To me despite Obama being clearly weaker on the personal front, I walked away knowing more about what his plan going forward is than Romney, which is what I personally put my vote in. I don't care about the " I could totally have a beer with this guy" shtick. I care more about knowing what that guy plans to do with my country.

That's obviously not related in any way to his job as moderator. His entire job, in total, completely is to manage time so that one candidate doesn't take more advantage of the shared infomercial than the the other. He did fine at that.

Crazy, his record speaks for itself, half the crap Romney attacked with was pure conjecture and buzz words, go check politifact for the run down on how much of what was said was accurate. Romeny was slinging plenty a falsehood last night, but he did it with a smile on his face, and an approachable tone. Which according to the news means he is the winner, despite not providing any details on his platform, and outright lying on the presidents record.

From an outsider. Romney is no longer a robot. He's a person. That's a MASSIVE improvement. He had to come across as a person you could talk to that understands your problems. He did a pretty good job at that. Still no details, but I don't know that that was his biggest weakness I think a bigger weakness was his disconnection with people, he connected really well last night and it'll change a lot of people's views about the guy.

Obama was bad. I was quite surprised at how poorly he did. He looked like a school kid that'd been dragged to the principle's office.

You'll have to excuse him. He thought everyone here would praise Obama no matter what, and now he's confused that didn't happen.

That's the assignment. It's a competition of who lies most effectively to low information voters. Nothing could possibly be less relevant than the veracity of claims made. If one candidate lies spectacularly, then it's the other candidates obligation to make that an issue immediately. To not do so, stipulates it as acceptable. Unfortunately, Obama likes to please old white men and is loathe to confront Romney on anything. He'll probably still win, but the uncle Tom shoe shining that's gotten him this far in his political life isn't suddenly going to be replaced by toughness. Expect more of the same in the last two debates, with Obama having the advantage that they're superficially not about the economy.

Gbaji lost his prediction that, no matter what, the media would declare Obama the winner and Romney the loser. So "HA!"... I guess.

I hear Romney is winning 1975% to FuckNo!% in the latest unskewed poll.

He got better towards the end of the debate once he got over the "Holy **** this is actually happening" face and started actually jabbing back, but it was too late for the majority of folks who glazed over half an hour before. I don't know that Romney came across as understanding problems seeing as he avoided specific answers about actual resolutions, but I do think that in he had a "Hey Shucks" Reagan-ness about him that plays well to middle America. I disagree with Smash that Obama will be the same in the next debate. It's social issues, and he's going to get the hell coached out of him before them. For all that he seems mild-mannered, he's not one to take a loss sitting down. It's the quiet ones that always hit back hardest.

No he won't. I like the guy, but let's be honest, he doesn't take coaching.

My personal read on Obama is that he is the sort that feels the mantle heavily blah blah. Losing as an incumbent is a different animal, partywise. As someone who always has his eye on history, I think he's conscious that he is in a crucial moment in his campaign. I think he'll do what he has to. I guess we'll wait and see next debate.

In the meantime, I am giddy with thoughts of Biden-Ryan.

Both'll be successful if Biden can stay awake and Ryan can keep from stealing someone's soul through his dead empty eyes.

If I had to choose who to go for a beer with based solely on that debate it'd be Romney, hands down. That's mostly what matters to the voters that aren't already entrenched. They want someone they can relate to and last night, that was Romney. The details don't matter to those people because they know it's all bull anyway so they pick the guy they like.

Rasmussen is reporting 103.1% of likely supporters will vote for him.

Except he wouldn't, because he is MORMON. Way to illustrate the target demographic.

Me, I'd drink with Biden.
