Still confused?

Not at all. Good ol' boys from down south are racist. It's not that hard to grasp.

And to to make it all you had to do was misquote him.

Edit: This would have flowed better without the two intervening posts.

Is Jon a woman?

I was being facetious gbaji. Joph made no mention to the fact that this quote was attributed to a "R" - you did. In fact you imply that one has to cherry pick quotes to find those specifically spoken by a "R".

That quote, what it says, is not really inclusive or exclusive of a political party. It's a stupid statement. You're stupid to point out that the stupid quote is from a member of your political party.

I just assumed we were all making fun of people from Arkansas. Because you know in Arkansas...

Quote:

-Hunting camels is prohibited.
-Any misdemeanor committed while wearing a red mask is considered a felony.
-There is a possible 25 years in prison for cutting down a cactus.
-Donkeys cannot sleep in bathtubs.
-A class 2 misdemeanor occurs if one places a mark upon a flag which is "likely to provoke physical retaliation".
-It is illegal to manufacture imitation cocaine.
-When being attacked by a criminal or burglar, you may only protect yourself with the same weapon that the other person posseses.
-It is unlawful to refuse a person a glass of water.
-You may not have more than two "relationship" toys in a house. (I'm guessing you know what those are.)
-The bullfrog-hunting season is permanently closed.
-It is illegal to sing in a public place while wearing a swimsuit.

The other stuff is fine, but what kind of idiotic bullsh*t is this? So I either have to be robbed, or have a fight to the death with the robber over his weapon in order to defend myself?

No no no, only one person can "possess" the weapon at a time. So logically, what this implies is that you have to be in possession of your own version of the robber's weapon, so that the two of you are equally matched. He has a bat? Then you get to use a bat. Etc. etc.

I sincerely hope that that's the working interpretation of the law. Because if so, I'd start breaking into peoples' houses armed with a swordfish. Don't have a swordfish to counter me with? Then sorry, I'll be taking your big screen.

I'm 99.99999% positive that had the statement been made by a Democrat, it would not have been reported, Joph would never have heard about it, and if he had, he would not have chosen to post it. The (R) was very deliberate. And it's why the original article was written, why it was quoted and repeated by another source, and why Joph decided to post it. You are incredibly naive if you haven't noticed the disparity between reporting of racism based on party affiliation.

Quote:

Then why include the political party then? Why not just leave off the R? You aren't seriously suggesting that the intent of the quote was to point out that it was a Republican who made it. Cause that would be really naive. Did anyone miss that the quote was from a Republican? Honestly?

It's not like democrats don't say racist things. Guess who said this:

Quote:
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy... I mean, that's a storybook, man."

Ever heard that reported on a mainstream media site? Much less repeated? Or posted?

And on the subject of racist Democratic quotes, this one's particularly appropriate in the context of "why the hell do black folks vote Democrat?":

Quote:
“These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we’ve got to do something about this, we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don’t move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there’ll be no way of stopping them, we’ll lose the filibuster and there’ll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It’ll be Reconstruction all over again.”

Quote:
"I'll have those n*ggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years."

Take a wild guess who said both those statements. Sad thing is that his strategy worked and today black voters turn out in droves to vote for the very party that has and still is ******** them over every single day. Not by accident. Not in spite of their best efforts and intentions. But because of a deliberate strategy to trap them in a state of entitlement (this is also appropriate to the "47%" comment Romney made btw, so you're getting a twofer.).

All men quotes. By your logic that proves my original point. Still I do recall hearing about Biden words. You can watch it all on you tube on a pretty in-depth story aired by NBC back in the day.

gbaji, perhaps you're not really absorbing mainstream media.

Yes. Let's blame the party that ended slavery. Let's blame the party that fought for civil rights for a century. Let's blame the party that actually voted for civil rights against a filibuster led by Democrats. Why? Because the party that fought to keep slavery, and fought to implement Jim Crow and segregation, and fought bitterly against civil rights laws, has somehow managed to take control of our media and our education system and has told you over and over that Republicans are to blame.

You're proving my point.

Quote:
You start out in 1954 by saying, "N--ger, n--ger, n--ger." By 1968 you can't say "n--ger" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "N--ger, n--ger."

Guess you guys blew it.

But, hey, now you get to run ads about how the scary black president wants to end welfare work requirements so it's not all bad, right?

It would be a much more funny joke if there weren't so many people who actually do believe that Republicans fought against Civil rights, and fought for slavery and Jim Crow and segregation. You make a joke, but a whole lot of people don't see it as a joke. So forgive me if I'm always going to correct the false assumption when I see it.

Looks like someone didn't read the Atwater quote, or else didn't know who it was by!

ETA: Or, judging from his response on page 3, a deliberate misunderstanding of what he was reading!
