Romney is kind enough to admit that Obama hasn't raised taxes during his first four years.

Can't see the video atm, but...

Status quo meaning sluggish economy, trillion dollar a year deficits, crumbling foreign policy, hiding under his desk and hoping the big decisions will go away, etc. Obama has basically phoned in the last two years of his presidency and the country is suffering for it.

I get a kick out of "crumbling foreign policy" given the state of America's foreign relations prior to Obama taking office.

I suppose that depends on whether you place more importance on some assumed result of "relations" rather than actual results in terms of foreign policy. Obama's certainly gone with the "if we're nice to them, they'll be nice to us" approach. And if you assume that this will produce better results, you'll judge the previous policy as "bad" and this one as "good".

The problem is that the outcomes don't match that theory, do they? As much as the left claimed that Bush's policy would anger people and create more problems, the reality is that during his watch we experienced a number of positive outcomes in the Middle East and were turning around a pattern of increased violence from extremist organizations within the region while building the strength to resist those forces among the governments in that same region. Under Obama, Afghanistan has collapsed into complete failure, several governments have toppled and been replaced with ones much more aligned with said extremists (or at least less able to resist them), and we're watching our embassies in the region burn. His idea that they'd like him because he was "on their side" (so to speak) didn't work. They're burning him in effigy as well.

At some point, one really should re-assess one's assumptions about which type of foreign policy is really better.

I suppose if you want to play the "it doesn't carry over" game, then the right was responsible for the planes crashing into the World Trade Center. This game is fun.

Thirty people died in a total of six attacks on US diplomatic outposts during Bush's first term and a total of sixty died in embassy/consulate attacks by the time he was out of office.

Nothing directly to do with this election but...
Political Wire wrote:
A pair of surveys asked Americans a more concrete question: in 1960, whether they would be 'displeased' if their child married someone outside their political party, and, in 2010, would be 'upset' if their child married someone of the other party. In 1960, about 5 percent of Americans expressed a negative reaction to party intermarriage; in 2010, about 40 percent did (Republicans about 50 percent, Democrats about 30 percent).

Stop mixed marriages!

My father was a party machine Republican (his family is the North Dakota GoP), and my mother was a Labor Democrat. However, neither of them were rabid about it, and honestly they were both low information voters.

They joked every November about going to cancel out each other's votes.

My biggest problem with that video is that his criteria for defining "compassion" makes no logical or linguistic sense. Compassion is about intent, not results.

Is it THAT hard to hire people who aren't idiots?

As staffers from a pool that's primarily the MASSACHUSETTS GOP? Yes. It's a small state, it's a very entrenched one party system for the most part. If you were talented and working for the GOP (unlikely to begin with) you're working for Romney. I imagine they're some donor's kids. (that's a complete guess)

Edit: Also, I take the kids to the museum for one day and nobody mentions that Gallup tracking has Obama +6 in the national horserace? That's a nightmare number for Romney. The recent stuff from Ohio is even worse. Too early to gloat, but, man, it's 42-14 in the 3rd quarter. I want Obama to win, but it could at least be slightly entertaining.

Ironic given that the GOP is clinging desperately to Rasmussen's polls as holy writ these days. Funnier was a few days ago when he had Obama +2 and they were all talking about how Scott Rasmussen must be oversampling Democrats as well Smiley: laugh

All those embassy workers who died under Bush don't count because they didn't meet the Gbaji Standard. File them along with date rape victims and children of gay couples, I guess.

Perception of weakness and vulnerability is a huge part of this.

Yes.

Right now, the US looks weak and our embassies are easy targets

No. Newly formed governments are seen as weak....because they are weak. Let's aside for the moment the idiotic idea that his was some sort of "organic" protest/mob violence. Assuming it was, who is that mob more at risk from? The local constabulary or the US? What a moronic US centric concept.

The reality is the strong governments in the region are de facto in control of conditions on the street in the weak ones, as it's allays been.

Were any of them actually ambassadors? If they're all just redshirts, well, then nobody's gonna notice.

#51gbaji, Posted: Sep 26 2012 at 8:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yup. So apply that to Obama's foreign policy. He's cheered (from the sidelines) movements which caused governmental collapse in several nations, taken no part in rebuilding them or strengthening them against those stronger governments, and then steadfastly refused to take any action, even verbal against those stronger governments when they merrily send their agents in to manipulate the new and weaker governments.
