Nine more days until round #1. Both sides are playing the "Romney's really good" card. Romney because he needs people to hang on to the hope that the debates will turn this around, Obama because he just needs to break even to maintain the status quo. The more awesome everyone expects Romney to be, the easier it is for Obama to hold his own against the expectations.

Obama is currently 3.7 points ahead of Romney according to the latest RCP average and has 48.6 percent of the vote -- right about where he was at his post-convention peak two weeks ago.

In before oversampling.

Don't really see anything new, or unexpected, going on, nor do I really expect any surprises. Both will most likely stick to a script of comments, and the one who strays furthest from their script will suffer.

Nah, I'd definitely give the edge to Obama when it comes to improv. If he's pushed, he can go far without completely ******* it up, unlike Romney.

So what are the odds of either candidate actually answering a question this time around?

Romney will say something really stupid or offensive, Obama will say something socialist. Then it's really a contest of who gets best spun.

My money is on Obama to win the classic style debate.

The debate should be jeopardy style.

What is 'tax the wealthy'?

Obama can get so verbose no one really remembers anything he said afterwards. Romney comes out swinging, going for sound bites, trying to say stuff that will stick with people to give his campaign a little uptick. Hopefully it for him isn't anything negative, or easily taken out of context.

They'll both say things that'll be taken out of context. I'd be surprised if it didn't happen.

Here's my hippie analysis: Romney's already sweating pretty hard. His most recent commercials released show him looking a little crazed, and wild-eyed. I think he's pretty raw, and I read some really geeky astrological compendium a month ago detailing how Romney was going to have **** hit the fan beginning in October and riding out until at least mid December, and nothing even comparable happening in Obama's chart. Sounds about right.

They'll answer questions, just not the ones being asked.

"And what is your view on kitten punching?"
"Thank you and first I'd like to go back to a statement my opponent made regarding squirrel rodeos..."

It's funny because Romney did worse than McCain last time.

I don't think either candidate is going to wipe the floor with the other one. Obama is a competent debater but it's not really his format. Romney "won" most of his debates by default by not looking as mentally retarded as Perry/Bachmann/Gingrich/Cain and showed a propensity to get flustered if he got off message.

I think they'll largely be a draw which, given the current state of the campaign, will be a loss for Romney.

According to my moon magician, Romney will be possessed by the spirit of the elephant god, Ganesha, lord of obstacles.

That'd be great, Romney's communications team are are unforgivably awful. Really though, debates don't matter much in most elections. Obama's really the only one with anything at risk. Romney's already losing., if he loses with 220 Electoral Votes or 200, no one cares.

Another case of the MAN keeping the brothers down. Would Romney agree to a basketball competition or a **** measuring contest. Clearly no, but Obama is forced into a wake up wearing Vaseline smile talking contest.

And they say it's a post racial society...

I just don't trust Romney to not stick his foot in his mouth, on both sides of any given issue, another half dozen times or so before the election. Obama's really just got to do nothing, while Romney eats shit for whatever out of touch crap he's spewing on a given week, & Obama's got a 2nd term.

Oh, & Israel has to hold off on attacking Iran until then too.

That sort of behavior is pretty standard around here when we want a guy to lower taxes.
