I'm willing to pretend to in order to be contrary.

Ok. She says that she doesn't want me to leave, which I believe whether I should or not. But today she asked if she could have something in writing saying that I'll be here for six months. Her reasoning being that she doesn't want me to jump ship sooner than that. Supposedly. She said, "Or you can just say that you want to stay here and you're happy."

I told her I would have to think about it but I defintely won't leave her high and dry. I mean, two weeks is standard notice. She said the other day that a MONTH notice wasn't enough in her opinion. Oh, and telling her I will stay and hopefully do her job at some point is not an option, because she has already said in the past that she would love for me to take over for her at some point.

It's not that I'm afraid she wants to fire me. It's more I'm worried that if six months comes up and I do t have a new job lined up, she'll let me go and say that I resigned.

I hate my big mouth. I should've just lied. But I honestly don't want her or the company to be left unprepared when I leave.
Why are you having all these personal conversations with your boss? All you ever had to say "I'm not very comfortable discussing this with you. Would you mind if we changed the subject?" The only thing I would put in writing is documentation of the entire conversation as well as you remember it with the clarification that you felt coerced to answer in a particular fashion and are uncomfortable now writing down where you will be six months from now since you have no way of knowing, but that you are at this moment committed to this job and expending all your efforts to excel in it. Then send it daily until the day you quit because you have another job lined up.

I told her I would have to think about it

You're a fucking idiot.

Seriously. Stop asking for advice and then ignoring it, then returning to ask for more advice that you'll apparently also ignore. I hope you get fired and your family starves to death and you all die in a gutter penniless and insane.

Good luck.

I don't recall actually asking for advice on how to handle the situation. I know myself well enough to know that when you all tell me I should lie, I won't do it. Maybe in some twisted way being honest makes me a bad person to some of you, I don't know. And, honestly, I don't really care.

Did I just majorly shoot myself in the foot...? I'm afraid I didn't handle it very well. It's true that I probably would've left in about six months, but what I'd I can't finish the course in time or I don't find a job right away? Is this "notice" going to mean she can let me go and I can't get unemployment if I really need it?

I don't mean to be a **** but the wording of this section makes it sound like you were asking for advice, even if they are rhetorical questions.

I was asking what the reprocussions of my actions might be because I don't understand unemployment very well. I'm sorry if that was misinterpreted. Aside from that, I've just meant to tell the forum the pickle my honesty has landed me in. I know that I may not be handling this in the most beneficial way possible for myself, but I honestly don't want to ***** the company I work for over.

Then you'll be taken advantage of, forever. Employers will lie to you as a matter of course, and sometimes explicit policy. You've confused a professional relationship with a personal one, this is a huge mistake that will negatively impact your life. For what? Integrity that no one will ever care about? Tell the truth to people who matter, stop thinking that people who pay you a wage in return for services matter. They don't. As will be evidenced when they exploit you at any opportunity for gain.

Know your audience and surroundings. Not everyone will act the same way in every scenario. There are enough people who care about integrity where you getting caught lying will cause "you to be taken advantage of, forever.".

Or you get divorced and are forced to move because you can't afford your mortgage? Or your spouse dies and... well, anyway. Still a little odd.

I was thinking, if hubby runs off with some hula dancer and leaves you with a gaggle of small children, you might need to divorce, quit and collect so you can take care of the tots.

I was talking about how the law allows employees to quit while still getting unemployment benefits, and you assumed that I wasn't restricting that to the set of criteria that the law allows employees to quit while still getting unemployment benefits? Really? That seems kinda insane. It's your MO, I suppose. So have at it.

Great. As mentioned previously, I can't determine your intent post hoc. Assert whatever you want, I just thought it would be useful for you to understand that absolutely no one else finds it at all plausible.

Finds what plausible? Your interpretation of what I said? For most people, that's a hint that perhaps you're misinterpreting it. For you, it's apparently an excuse to attack the person speaking on that absurd interpretation, and when they say "that's not what I meant" accuse them of backpedalling.

Quote:
This isn't an isolated incident. This is likely the 100th+ time that you've made a post, been corrected then asserted that what you meant all along was entirely different.

Correct. This is easily the 100th time you've asserted a ridiculous and illogical interpretation of what I post, and then I have to correct you by pointing out the much more reasonable and logical interpretation that was right in front of you the whole time. I certainly take part of the blame for this because I forget that I'm writing to an audience that's more interested in finding some fault with what I wrote than with making any attempt to understand what I'm saying.

You have no idea how often I've written something, then re-read it, realized that what I wrote could be interpreted in some moronic way, then think "No one would really be stupid enough to think that's what I was trying to say", and gone ahead and posted it anyway because I didn't want to further lengthen the post by giving an exhaustive explanation instead of just a short phrase. What's funny is just how often someone does do exactly that, and proceeds to ignore the entire post I've made in favor of making a big deal about that one word or phrase. Just like you did.

What's really bizarre is your dogged need to keep making the point, well after I've clarified things. What exactly do you hope to gain? We both agree that you can't get unemployment benefits if you just quit for no legitimate reason. No one's confused about this. So what's the value of you insisting that I said something that you thought meant I believed that they could? I mean, if I were arguing that position, you'd have a point. But I'm not. So... What's the point? Is your ego really so fragile that you have to attack perceived mistakes by others in order to make yourself feel superior? That's kinda sad. Most mature people accept the clarification and move on. But not you!

Here's a hint: less is more. Your tendency to ramble on senselessly for five paragraphs when you could make your point in two short sentences, will make anyone either lose track of your original intention, or give up after the first two sentences and not bother to take you seriously. Here's another hint: those two scenarios aren't the other person's fault. You're a ****** if you expect anyone to slog though your verbal diarrhea on a regular basis.

Veracity. Just can't help it, I guess. Part of my education. Veritas, motherfucker.

I sort of skimmed the rest of what you posted, because honestly, who has to bother to read one of your posts. Let me assure you, once again, no one finds it plausible. No one. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by posting it, really, but there are absolutely zero people who have read it who believe that you are constantly misunderstood and taken out of context as opposed to just not being that bright.

Trust me on this.

See, gbaji doesn't know he's a sociopath

He's not glib enough to be a sociopath. No one should diagnose based on forum posts (he said, noting he wasn't locked in a padded room) but....

Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

Check

Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

Check

Believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

Check

Requires excessive admiration

Check

Has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

Check

Is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

Check

Lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

Check

Is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her

Check

Shows arrogant, haughty behavior or attitudes.

Check

Textbook. Or in this case, DSM inventory fitting. Guess the disorder!
