Ah, I meant difference in regards to the GOP. I don't doubt that he'd use his "independence" as a talking point for the election.

The deadline was 5PM yesterday for him to quit "in time." If he quits now, he stays on the ballot in November and they'd have to do a massive write-in campaign to get anyone else elected.

Actually he can drop out between now and Sept 25 but the Sec of State has to approve it. I know that if he had dropped out yesterday the state GOP could select someone else for the ballot. I don't remember how they'll fill the slot if he drops out before the 25th.

I believe Akin also has to personally shoulder the state's printing costs for new ballots if he drops out.

According to Ryan, rape is rape is rape...
CBS Pittsburgh wrote:
Delano: “You sponsored legislation that has the language ‘forcible rape.’ What is forcible rape as opposed…”

Ryan: “Rape is rape. Rape is rape, period. End of story.”

Delano: “So that forcible rape language meant nothing to you at the time?”

Ryan: “Rape is rape and there’s no splitting hairs over rape.”

...especially when you're dodging questions about your support and co-sponsorship of a bill that explicitly redefined rape to NOT be "rape is rape is rape". I guess the language "meant nothing" Ryan. Or else he didn't know what it meant. Or maybe he just never read the bill.

More likely, "rape is rape" because Ryan only considers it to be "rape" when the woman has enough bruises to show for it.

I had a German machine in the shop once that was roughly translated to English by the German Engineer who made it. There was one button on a screen, very large, that said ABORTION (it was the Stop button).

Someone got offended by it... they called me to the machine to complain and asked me to change it.

Yeah, I'm sort of at my limit with the way blatant stupidity is celebrated on the right. I realize that many in his own party are calling for his withdrawal, but his donations alone speak to the sort of underground (for lack of a better term) support and it's disturbing. It's truly alarming to think of the willful, pervasive ignorance of basic biology.

I think all this anti-rape talk is just hate speech, trying to fear-monger men into being afraid of vaginas. So what, is a man supposed to think, "Well, there's this vagina here, and my penis thinks it wants me inside of it. But wait, where is the rape line??" That's just too much thought to expect men to have under such duress.

And?

When no law prohibits a rapist from exercising these rights, a woman may feel forced to bargain away her legal rights to a criminal trial in exchange for the rapist dropping the bid to have access to her child

Yeah, this is a ludicrous, childish, emotional, and obviously spurious argument. The idiocy of wanting to codify into law every possible potential outrage stretches credulity at times. Just so we're clear, "no law" prohibiting a rapist from exercising custody rights means in 31 states, he'd be subject to the same child welfare system that, you know, removes your children from custody if you name them Adolf Hitler and buy a cake, or take them tanning with you. The idea that Billy the Rapist will somehow escape their notice upon his release from a jail sentence that is frequently longer than those of convicted killers, after registering as a sex offender and choosing to have contact with his magical unicorn rape baby is BATsh*t INSANE.

I get it, a rich white lady that had something terrible happen to her, then a politician made a statement about it that was tangentially related, so there has to be a CNN story. What I don't understand *at all* is what the point of this woman's attempt at getting legislation passed is, aside from the obvious vanity play of redeeming her self esteem through helping some (largely imaginary based on her article) others avoid some terrible fate. That's fine and everything, but believe it or not, there are situations where that doesn't actually require new legislation in 50 states.

http://georgetownlawjournal.org/files/pdf/98-3/Prewitt.PDF

Fuck, I've never seen more instances of the word "may" in an academic paper in my life. Oh wait, it's a pity piece in a student law journal, my mistake; that explains the complete lack of coherent reasoning or factual basis for any of it.

"For example, H.H. she believes was conceived through rape, although the court found insufficient
evidence to reach that conclusion."

Wait a god damned minute, a woman who BELIEVES a child was conceived through rape can't deny a father's parental rights just because a court finds insufficient evidence of the veracity of the claim?? WHAT SORT OF COUNTRY DO WE EVEN LIVE IN????? How can it possibly be that a court can take such dastardly action as allowing a father convicted of no crime to see his children when their mother disagrees.

Stop being such a sucker for outrage porn. Seriously. It's embarrassing. Don't worry, though, I'm sure these laws will get passed. I mean, really, who's going to vote FOR a rapist having the right to see his child. Or any children, really. Maybe that's a good logical next step. And women, obviously, I mean who knows when he'll fire off another magic rape baby bullet then try really hard to be involved in it's life. Let's just skip to some Escape from New York style rapist impregnaior island, because that will solve this terrible problem of women maybe, sometime, kind of feeling pressure to avoid pressing rape charges because their rapist might want to have joint custody.

These are serious, serious problems, people, we should spend a great deal of energy and time and resources trying to address them. @#%^ sh*t like worrying about executing innocent people or sh*t like that. I mean omelet...eggs. amirite?

BOSTON (Reuters) - A Republican candidate in New Hampshire backed down on Thursday from a suggestion he would use "deadly force" to stop doctors from performing abortions, saying he "let his imagination get out of control."
Frank Szabo, who is running for sheriff in Hillsborough County, caused a uproar with his threats to crack down on legal abortion with arrests, prosecution and further actions aimed at doctors.
"Deadly force is always a last resort," Szabo said in interview with the television station WMUR on Wednesday. "Why would anyone object to the use of deadly force to prevent the murder of an unborn human?"

I mean ya its for Sheriff, but still you think you would shelve crazy for a few weeks until the Akin craze boiled over.
