Flea won tickets for a private Metric concert tonight so that's what we're doing. Tomorrow is a birthday party for another of my cousins' kids. Sunday the Lord mandates that I rest.

Minor weapon maintenance, but happily abso-freakin'-lutely nothing planned.

How long will it last in Imperial units? I can't remember the conversion.

I'm limping into the weekend, physically and mentally, due to tough workouts and a tough work week, respectively. Really looking forward to some rest. Just gonna do some leisurely research for mah book, and maybe try to cobble together another article.

In the games department, Sound Shapes is fun. Might try to get a review together for it. And Starhawk has a nice new update, so I'll probably mess around with that (custom soundtracks FTW).

Took the day off today, so once I finish this quarterly conference call I plan on doing a little organizing around the house. Some homework, and prep work for getting my hardwood floors installed Monday. I should also be getting my shiny new PC in the mail today, which should be fun.

Also, there's a music festival going on in town this weekend, Alison Krauss and Union Station is the headliner, with 40ish other artists. It's always a pretty good time.

I know right. Apparently I'm a discredit to my profession as well. I happened to mention it at work the other day and one of my colleagues was flabbergasted that I wasn't building my own, being an IT guy and all. Despite my better judgement, I explained the rationale and that pacified him a bit.

Speaking of music, I heard "The Wind" by the Zac Brown Band on Adult Swim the other night and found it really catchy, which leads me to believe I've some sort of mental deterioration going on here.

The legit reasons for not building your own system:
- Super great deal on it, and system is being pretty much sold at cost
- You want the super extended 5 year warranty
- You really just don't feel like ******* around with the research and assembly and would rather pay someone else for that

Not everyone is a PC hobbyist, after all.

My weekend involves getting lunch comped on the company today, dinner with the hubby anywhere but downtown tonight (uni students are going to swarm downtown), and then doing absolutely nothing over the weekend because school starts next week. I might push myself a little bit in nerdly endeavors, since I'm one fight away from Maat's cap and have less than a month left to try to get at least one job to level 50 in FFXIV before they blow up the world.... but those don't count because I won't be leaving the house.

Oh, I'm also going to be whimpering a lot because the uni hiked up my tuition by a thousand dollars, and thus finances will be tighter than expected since I didn't take out any loans this year.

In case it was unclear, I was being tongue-in-cheek. The usual responses on the net to "I bought a computer" are manifestos about how you could have built it for 97% cheaper and, since you didn't hand select each part, the motherboard is going to be made out of Tinkertoys and the video will be a Voodoo 3 PCI card.

Other than watching those I'm likely just going to be wasting time doing very little and enjoying it thoroughly.

Cause it's true!!! Really. I knew a guy, who had a drinking buddy, who's sister's boyfriend's next door neighbor's first cousin's babysitter's uncle once ordered a computer pre-made and it came assembled out of tinkertoys. No lie!

Honestly though, the last couple computers I've bought I've been satisfied with merely picking out the components and having someone else assemble them. I do the OS install myself, mainly because the bundled installs that most places do are cheap because they stuff tons of garbage on them, but also because that way I can still claim I "built the system myself". Yeah, whatever.

As to the weekend, I somehow managed to contract a mild cold that I've been suffering with all week. Despite this, I plan to infect my entire family clan at some ridiculously huge "summer birthday extravaganza" going on. Which basically means that I have to cough up like 5 or 6 gifts all at once. Not sure I have the energy or inventiveness for that, so gift cards will be common.

On behalf of myself and all other IT folk everywhere, please consider yourself unmercifully taunted. Also, my computer can beat up your computer.

I had the middle of the week off this week as my little brother was in town from Boston, and I haven't seen him in several years now. So that was fun. He brought his girlfriend too, and they stayed as house guests in my house so I actually got some use out of my guest room finally. One of the highlights of the week was wandering around a pool in a giant human sized hamster ball. Yes, it was awsome, no, no pictures exist.

This weekend I get to catch up on all my neglected gardening assuming it isn't 100 degrees out again, and possibly actually finish the CNC mill mechanicals and electrical. I still need to build the enclosure around it at some point, but that can wait.

I also may have aquired enough funds to purchase my socket 2011 processor finally so I can actually finish my computer rebuild. I got the deal of the century on koolance quick disconnect fittings, so I'll actually have a really easy to modify cooling loop for the water cooling too, which will be nice for swapping out higher end video cards later on. It's getting there.

I couldn't find a tinkertoy case mod. Perhaps a whole untapped market segment there!

I'm a week into a 20-something day weekend, chilin' in a rented room in Sault Ste. Marie. The weekend includes: Hempfest(weed!), Buskerfest(musics!...maybe), a train tour(why the hell not? sounds like a good time), and the purchasing of insanely cheap merchandise from the Michigan side of the city(Yay US exclusive snacks!).

I was at the birthday party for my cousin's kid and my cousin's husband gave me a copy of the Prima guide for Saints Row the Third. As it turns out, he wrote it.

I have the same opinion of Prima guides as I'm sure most of you do (I still own my hysterically inaccurate Prima Everquest guide from 1999) but I still think it's kind of cool that he literally wrote the book on SRTT.

My sister just published a new book.

Purl the Little Knit Girl - it's knitting patterns.

Everyone make sure to pick up a copy.
