Pre-Convention Election Round-UpFollow

#327ThiefX, Posted: Aug 29 2012 at 9:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The Cayman island "flag" is a simple variation of the red ensign (there are several "countries" that fly that flag with only simple differences) and it is almost always referred to as the red ensign or Union Jack not the Cayman Island flag (unless your ABC news or a petty little partisan)

Except the part where it's a simple variation of the blue ensign, like several other flags in the world. That, you know, still doesn't mean they don't have their own flag, but at least you're trying.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

It's a red ensign;But that's irrelevant, It's the official Cayman Isles flag.

The blue is used for state property, and the red is for civilian usage.

It's a red ensign;
This is what we're talking about.

Right, Romney used a red ensign on his boat, because while registered to the Caymans, it's not of the Cayman navy.

The component that is of the Caymans is the actual crest.

"Trying desperately"? Well, if quoting a couple lines and adding three words is "trying desperately", I'd hate to think how you'd describe your attempts to strike back against the story. Must have you really upset to have written all about Yahoo and the media and how these guys probably weren't "real" Republicans and now going on about the Cayman Islands flag. Someone is getting a little worried, I think...

Don't worry. Gbaji will still be here to back you up when you deny it Smiley: laugh

Obviously the best defense to a story about Romney's upper tier contributors getting wined and dined on a yacht flying a foreign flag and registered to the Cayman Islands is to nit-pick the details on whether or not it's a "real" Cayman Islands flag. Because that's the detail people will care most about (assuming they care at all).

You're either trying to imply they're not a country, which would be a weird argument to make since no one made the argument they are, or are you trying to imply only countries have flags, which I'm sure we can find about fifty examples to prove that wrong.

On topic: I heard the other day that Paul Ryan's high school civics teacher won't be voting for him. He said he was a smart kid, and the school is proud of how far he's gone, but he disagrees fundamentally on the direction Ryan wants to take the country.

Actually, the home turf for Ryan seems to be pretty ambivalent about him. Many are still pissed off that his anti-earmark stance meant he couldn't do anything to save the plants that were once the lifeblood of the town, but which were all shuttered during the recession.

That's all well and good, but it's not exactly noteworthy. I wouldn't expect anyone's pre-held political leanings to take a backseat to the fact that they once taught someone in high school.

Each of these territories have their own official flags for, among other things, registered ships.

It's okay, we all know you don't know what you're talking about and are completely incapable of acknowledging and admitting such things.

It's irrelevant anyway. The obvious bad optics come from the Cayman Islands connection with regards to Romney's off-shore accounts. No one who cares (and I posted just as a "ha-ha!", no one is suggesting this boat will decide the election) is going to say "Oh! The flag was missing a symbol? Well, I guess I got this Romney chap all wrong!"

It's actually funnier now that ThiefX, rather than ignoring it as unimportant, decided to waste post after post trying to defend Romney on the basis of how a flag looks Smiley: laugh

#350ThiefX, Posted: Aug 30 2012 at 10:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not trying to imply anything. I used "countries" because that is what technically some of the places that use the "red ensign" are but the fact is that I have more people coming to my house Saturday to watch College football than some of these places have citizens.
