Will he be riding a dressage horse?

In other news, there's a big digital billboard next to the center the GOP is holding their convention at and the DNC has bought it out. It's currently flashing messages about Romney and outsourcing Smiley: laugh

I will admit that right there is pretty dang funny. Smiley: nod Oh the rage that will ensue from that is going to be even more enjoyable to watch.

That's ok. It looks like it'll be more than balanced out by the idiocy of Chris Matthews camped out front. Seriously? Lacing every description of anything or anyone related to the GOP with words like "extreme", "illegal", "immoral", and "racist" (he appears to really like that one) pretty quickly fails to impress and soon after that just turns people off. I was particularly amused last night when his best example of GOP personal attacks was Romney calling Obama a "foodstamp president" (lets ignore that Obama actually took credit for the fact that total foodstamp spending has gone up since he took office), then in the very next segment shows a clip of Obama calling Romney an "extremist" as some example of great statesmanship (or something, I kinda lost track of where his fevered mind was going with that one). The irony was apparently lost on him.

Having not seen Chris Matthews in years, I'll have to take your word on that.

Based on what little bit I have seen, Matthews is going off the deep end a tad more frequently.

Mitt Romney is now officially the candidate. Also, apparently seating rules have been changing so presidential candidates can veto the delegate selections and choose their own. This quickly happened with a Maine group of Ron Paul supporters, who stormed out of the convention.

Good ol' grassroots groups. They're useful until they're not. I'm sure Romney will be sucking up to them again as soon as the convention is over, but man, Tea Partiers and libertarians are PISSED right now.

Also, official GOP platform is out. Among other things, they:
1. Call for a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage
2. Remove gender identity from anti-discrimination laws
3. Call for the passage of the Personhood Amendment. No abortions for all, huzzah!
4. Want increased military spending
5. Only support abstinence-only sexual education in schools
6. Repeal Obamacare (of course). They also claim to want to replace it with "free market options."

Oh, and in addition to the war on religion, they say the EPA has a war on coal. That's a new one I hadn't heard before.

So nothing really different than any normal convention? You do get that once a candidate has been officially declared, the delegates don't serve any purpose other than backdrop. And it's normally expected that they drop their signs for their original candidate and take up support for the nominee. Cause that's kind of the point of the whole operation. I see nothing wrong with tossing a group of idiots who can't get over the fact that their guy didn't come remotely close to winning.

No. Just Ron Paul supporters. Tea Party is pretty happy as well as actual libertarians (you also get that Paul isn't really a libertarian, right?). I'm sure there's some value among liberals to paint this as something bigger than it really is, but it's really pretty minor.

So... Ah. No change right? What's funny is all the language suggesting that the GOP "adopted" a new platform position on X, or Y, or Z. But the reality is that most of those things didn't change one bit. This is not new, and it's not news.

Yeah, because it's much better to kick out people who will vote for who they want rather than let them have their Pyrrhic victory, right? Ron Paul would give maybe 10% of the delegates (and that's being generous), but apparently it was a high enough number that the RNC had to cut it off?

I'm looking forward to two things now: Romney trying to suck up the angry Paulsters and get their vote back, and the blowback (see what I did there?) when the Pubbies lose the election because they couldn't get their support.

See, that's the funny thing: unlike you, I actually get my news from a source. It happens to be Glenn Beck's website, as it's the most right-wing place I can find; and fully half the comments are PISSED libertarians and Tea Partiers. Even better, the other half are people who hate RP and libertarians. I don't go to liberal sites to find out conservative positions: I listen to the conservatives themselves. What better way to know your opponent than to listen to him directly, right?

Went back to 2008's platform to check and see. Let's see...

1. Yup, same.
2. Yup, same.
3. No, "Personhood Amendment" is a new one. No calls for a Constitutional amendment banning abortion: just them saying "All life is sacred."
4. I suppose in 2008 they said "keep spending the same" and now they're saying "increase spending" for the military.
5. Yup, same.
6. Well, obviously different.

And the EPA's war on coal is new too.

Except for the part where they said this:

Quote:
Faithful to the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence, we assert the inherent dignity and sanctity of all human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment s protections apply to unborn children.

So... Um... No change. Except maybe coming up with a label for it.

Whoops. Not even a label change. Apparently you repeated what someone else said about it. Let's look at the actual platform

OMG! You're right. It's totally different man! What the hell are those Republicans thinking making these crazy changes to their platform. This must be what happens when you nominate a Morman. Lol!

So... Huffpost? It's hard to tell since the liberal media sources all share notes to make sure they're repeating the same talking points on any given day. I suppose one is the same as the other.
