According to Neil deGrasse Tyson, NASA isn't being nearly as candid about the mission as they should be. Here is the true first image from the Curiosity.

It only sticks in my mind because some of my Professors was involved in the designing of the probe and such. He held it up as an example of why it's important to have a set of standard measurements for things like that.

In other words LRN2MERTRIC! Smiley: laugh

The spacecraft encountered Mars at an improperly low altitude, causing [the $200 million satellite] to incorrectly enter the upper atmosphere and disintegrate headbutt the planet.
Rapidly.

The weird units are always English/British. I was reading a translation for a manga that was obviously ye olde queen language due to a character using "Mummy" to refer to her mother. And in that same volume they translated a distance that was in kilometers into some silly unit called "Blocks".

Man, Mars is a dump. Add Governor Brewer chasing some Mexicans with a stick and you'd have Arizona.

While I enjoyed my visits to Arizona, I would have a Nerdgasm if given the chance to visit Mars.

You know, I could deal with the red dirt. I'm used to red dirt. Proper dirt is always red or orange. That's not a problem.

But every time I see the yellow sky in those photos, I get the Taz-Mania theme song stuck in my head.

The article wrote:
Engineers suspect small pebbles kicked up by the rover’s landing rockets during touchdown may have hit its deck and severed delicate wires on one of the sensor’s exposed circuit boards.
