Totally. And given the state of our economy, I can only guess Mexican culture is entirely about sitting in puddles of mud and poking at one another with sticks.

That would be Ecuadorian, minus the puddles.

To put a fine period on Romney's trip, the Polish Solidarity union has disavowed any endorsement of Mitt and rebuked his anti-union ideology.
Solidarity's website wrote:
In relation to Lech Walesa’s meeting with Mitt Romney, a candidate for President of the USA, I wish to inform that NSZZ “Solidarnosc” is in no way involved in the organization of this meeting nor had the initiative to invite Mitt Romney to Poland.

Regretfully, we have learned from our friends in the American trade union central AFL-CIO, representing over 12 million workers, about Mitt Romney’s support for the attacks against trade unions and labor rights. In this respect, I wish to express, on behalf of the President of NSZZ “Solidarnosc” Piotr Duda, our solidarity with American workers and trade unions. NSZZ “Solidarnosc” will always support the AFL-CIO in their struggle for the right of workers to organize and bargain collectively.

Even the guys who started the Polish movement against communism in the 80's don't like Mitt.

A just war is good for the economy.

WWII was a just war. The US was not the aggressors, and when we got punked by Japan, the USians were righteously pissed for good reasons. When the whole of the country is enthused about a war and is willing to sacrifice for the good of the military, the economy can be robust afterward.

The "just-ness" of a war is completely subjective and has nothing to do with how good or bad it will be for the economy.

Wars cost money, usually in the form of higher taxes or increase borrowing. The primary reason why WWII was good for our economy was that we had a strong manufacturing base to make all the **** needed to rebuild post-war Europe and Japan. Thanks to our trade policy, those days are gone.

I think catwho was just referring to the public's perception, in that a war that's widely supported by the populous is better for the economy.

Exactly. War is unjust no matter the reasons, but a war that the population supports won't have nearly the same level of negative impact as one that the population does not support, like the ones we're currently engaged in.

So Romney apparently has an app that will tell you who his VP is when he chooses one and will get you free goodies if you get more people to grab the app. Now I'm curious, aside from this being a rather lame app, is it free or just a new way to make some money?

It's free. They're collecting your name, address, cell phone number, etc so they can have you on their phone and mailing lists. Plus the other usual demographic info.

A couple media folks made the "I downloaded this app so now I'll know before the media!" joke about it yesterday.

Nah, it was a laugh at the "You'll know before the media" plug for the app.

I figure the chance of me finding out via some media source is higher than the chance of me actually paying attention to my phone app at the moment of the announcement. That and I'll likely say "Rob Portman, huh? That's nice" when I find out, anyway.

I bet Kao could finagle things so that when the Mitt App that he downloads gets the 'alert' and flashes that name across his smart-screen, it will automatically generate a post in =4. Then the Asylum gets to know before the media too.

It's not a coincidence, 'The Sun" is part of Rupert Murdock's media empire.

The good news is that Rupert Murdoch's name is mud here now, with the News International Phone Hacking Scandal (Well worth researching by the way) still ongoing. As a result of this one of his papers "The News of the World" was axed and "The Sun" is soon-to-be under investigation for similar criminal offenses. Murdoch's empire is being systematically expelled from the UK, thank god. This isn't taking into account that Murdoch himself has been moving more and more assets to the USA and appeared on FOX News to say that he doesn't care about the English people anymore, which added another layer to the sh*t sandwich.
Paul McMullan is part of this "Gutter Press" who gets verbally mauled in this YouTube video.

The reasons "The Sun" sells so many papers is because,
1. It's dirt-cheap (30p), reflected in the quality of the writing too.
2. It never provides evidence or cites it's sources, it acts on "Opinion" (Guess Who's?)
3. Guys like seeing topless women.
4. Women like reading "Dear Deardrie" segments and like the trashy columns about celebrities.
5. Shorter articles, for people with short attention spans who don't want to get the full story.

Personally I read The Independent and/or The Guardian. Sure, they cost considerably more than other papers (£1.20) but the quality of journalism found is leagues better than anything Murdoch's rags provide. Despite being the herald for the end of life as we know it, I'll let The Daily Mail slide.

Back on topic, Romney is a tool.

Yea, that's big difference between European print and NA. Maxim magazine has nude shots and ads in it as well, if you buy the European print.

Which raise the an answer to one of the other threads. Being a liberal means you get to see more boobs.

The Sun is infamous/famous for having "Page Three Girls" (NSFW) on Pg. 3 of each edition. These girls are accompanied by frankly hilarious blurbs such as "Jenny from Essex says that ____ ____ ____, and that people should _____ _____ ____". While these girls are indeed hot, too many men take their "Opinions" as gospel truth and that blurb becomes their own opinion on the matter at hand. It's like the newspaper is trying to convince men to follow their cause or agree with them by putting their own views next to a picture of a topless woman as if it were her own thoughts, when they're clearly not.

"Hey man, that hot chick there thinks the opposition party are losers"
"Yeah! If I think along those lines I might get me some of that..."

It's funny to witness but sad to see how many people formulate their opinions on it.
