It's getting out of hand! Smiley: tinfoilhat

I'd so want my money back if I won one of those. What's next? Obama isn't really black? Greenpeace a subsidiary of Fox News? 50 shades made into a children's book?

Disappointed I am. Smiley: disappointed

Anyway, anyone else looking forward to the games?

I'd agree, but then they'd try and sneak in some rice cracker in the middle or something to hold it all together. Probably would be only like 10% chocolate in the end. Devious little devils. Smiley: bah

I guess if someone would have asked me if I thought the gold medal was really made all of gold, and I pondered on that for a few minutes, I'd probably have concluded it wasn't.

They should be awarded the skulls of their fallen opponents.

I like watching the Olympics. I think I enjoy the water sports the best - white water kayaking, rowing, synchronized swimming and water polo.

I really like watching the white water kayaking. It's pretty easy to understand; you can tell who's doing well and who isn't. Mostly though, it just looks like awesome fun, and it's neat that they construct the whole course like that.

Water polo is interesting just for its brutality. Seems like the toughest sport, to me...a bunch of jacked up dudebros trying to almost-drown each other.

I may watch a bit of the basketball, for the strangeness of it (generally speaking, I like the international rules better than the NBA's).

I watch the luge for the morbid possibility of someone being launched through the air and smashed into a wall or pillar at a hundred miles per hour.

Yes! That would be fun.

I'll watch the track events; some kind of armchair quarterback nostalgic kind of thing, those will be the biggest draw. Most anything else will be interesting when it's on. Part of the fun is seeing all the different sports you only hear about once every few years.

Also beach volleyball, because ya...

"You know the luge, where the guy wears the slick suit. This is on the bobsled run, but it’s not even a sled. It’s just Bob. It’s just a human being hanging on for their life, this is the whole sport. Just ahhhhhhhhh… “oh he pointed his toes… oh, this guy is a tremendous athlete." The luge is the only sport I’ve ever seen that you could have people competing in it against their will. And it would be exactly the same. You know, if they were just picking people off the street, 'hey hey hey, what is this ?! I don’t wanna be in the luge.' You know, you put the helmet on them, you wouldn’t really hear them screaming, just: - purrrrrr - 'you’re in the luge, buddy...' 'ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh… aaahhh…' World record. Didn’t even wanna do it. I wanna see that event next year, the involuntary luge."

The luge won't be available in London. Smiley: rolleyes. Maybe street-luge will become an Olympic event at some point.

I like watching beach volleyball too - and pole-vaulting.

I hope they televise the Judo, now that I think of it. Bet that'd be pretty fun to watch.

I wonder when/if they'll include Mixed Martial Arts in the Olympics. They've already got Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, and Tae Kwon Do. Seems logical to have an event where they're all combined.

I obviously wouldn't guess that it was 24k gold or anything but I would have thought maybe 10k with perhaps a sheathe of higher purity gold over the top. Silver is just lame Smiley: mad

Sometimes it is, most times it's boring as **** since judo is a defensive sport and it's just two people holding each others arms and staring.

I probably have more of a tolerance for that than most, so s'all good. Granted, I don't know much of anything about Judo, but I think that some general MMA knowledge might translate a bit. I can find the nuance in most of the uglier grappling/mma fights, at least.

See, I found that fairly entertaining. Do find the the fact that a guy can get dropped on his face (like the one did at 2:40ish or so) and not concede any sort of point to be a bit unintuitive, though.

I'll most likely watch the boxing and some of the track and field, depending on the events.

So true. Here's a photo I found from a 1939 match.

I always enjoy the 3 minutes of fencing they show in the olympics. My fencing instructor in College was on the U.S. womans fencing team at some point. She was about 58 years old when I took that class if I had to guess, little grey haired lady, and she could have kicked every single one of our asses in that class without even breaking a sweat. She was a good teacher though, and our team destroyed the rest of the compition in the area. I don't know if she had a medal or not though.

I'm still scarred from the last summer olympics, when my mom (who is normally very shy/soft spoken) admitted to me that the only reason she watches them is to enjoy the eye candy of the men's gymnastics, with a really creepy tone that no child EVER wants to hear their mother use.

Can't be creepier or more unsettling than Twilight Moms.

I was recently freed of being creeped out by them, thanks to a web comic's advice on a better way to read the twilight books. I found it works fairly well if you apply it to twilight fans as well, and completely removes the scary Smiley: lol
