Yes, you learned that a big poorly written rant won't receive stimulating conversation and debate in response. Great work there, Jane Goodall.

I'm not stomping, it is about what I expected from these forums. I was drunk and had exhausted my usual forums but remembered The Asylum, but didn't know whether the liberals here were real liberals, or now Obama apologists. So put up a test thread, which nearly everyone either failed because they're mere fairweather "liberals", or rightly ignored because I suck so incredibly much and my name is anathema.

That is, hell. What do you think of Laura Poitras? Abdulelah Haider Shaye?

[Sorry if you've brought these names up in past threads/posts on this forum. LOL if you haven't and consider yourself liberal]

Glad I'm not a liberal, so that I don't get forced to have these rigid "IFF or you're a @#%^ing moron" thought processes applied to me Smiley: dubious

All that said, I like the new topic more.

I've been hearing this since mid-November 2008. Obama is moderate, and made serious and arguably misguided efforts to build some kind of bipartisan coalition. That wasn't going to happen, and I don't know whether he thought it could, or whether he just wanted to be seen making the effort. Dropping the single payer option from the health care initiative didn't help his liberal cred.

He's certainly not as far to the left as a whole lot of people were hoping. I'm not sure why they thought he would be. Either way, ignorami pointing at Obama and screaming "SOCIALIST" make me laugh.

It's pretty obvious that bipartisanship will be next to impossible with how super-partisan the parties have become in the last decade or so, but just being seen making the effort will be seen as a good thing to undecideds and people who pretend to be independent thinkers or whatever.

I was more referring to Joph not being liberal enough. That was the adorable angle in this thread.

BTW, has Romney committed a felony?

He filed in his primary financial disclosure forms that he left Bain Capital in 1999. This was partially due to some criticisms from his fellow candidates for the nomination that he was in charge of Bain when it bought out a medical waste company that dealt with aborted fetuses (honestly, first I heard of that particular attack line. I think it came from Santorum's camp.) If he left Bain before the company was acquired in 2001, then he wasn't involved in the decision. (For its part, Bain is now saying he took some time off to go run the Salt Lake City Olympics, which is exactly the sort of thing bored rich CEOs go and do, I guess.)

However, Bain Capital filed in their SEC disclosure forms that he was a paid CEO until 2002 (meaning, he continued to draw a paycheck until then.) Romney also said previously that he was a dedicated executive of Bain and would either fly back in for board meetings or telephone in if he needed to.

Both cannot be true. Even if he wasn't involved in decisions at Bain in 2002, he was still getting paid a salary, meaning his disclosure forms for his campaign contain false information and he's been hedging about his involvement in the company. Or Bain lied in its SEC filings about paying him as their CEO, which is a felony.

Honestly, this probably won't have much impact in the election, but it sure does make Romney look like a putz.

Zero evidence from the Obama campaign of Romney committing a felony. Merely having a title means nothing, and I had to laugh at Cutter's comments of "Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and his own signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony. Or he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people to avoid responsibility for some of the consequences of his investments." If the Obama campaign is putting any serious bets behind this horse, then they're in an exceptionally sad state.

It's an ever shrinking list, but there are still a few of us around. Myself and Jophiel. Darqflame certanly, angstycoder, though under a different name, Gbaji, Smasharoo, Nexa, Tare, Samira, possibly Atromicflea though she may have just missed UBB, Dark night who still occasionally posts is one of the few left who has an account older than mine. Moebiuslord, trykybeck if he still posts, Nadenu, Tomec, Kastigir, Totem. I'm sure i'm missing some, and I'm sure a few of those I named were probably right after UBB. There are a few UBBers on the FFXI side too, but they were only there a few months before the transition. The UBB cutover happened October 25thish, 2003. Searching for threads in that timeframe will give you a good idea of what things were like back then. Anythign older than that in the forum system was the old item and mob comment system.

At this point there are many more names not here anymore than here, but also many new ones. Its how the forums work. they are cyclic, and in our case often rooted in transitory gaming interests. its one of the reason game forums are less stable than your equivelent hobby forums

If anybody truly believed that Romney had committed a felony, somebody would have filed a lawsuit already. The fact that they haven't means that he hasn't committed a felony, but the Obama campaign will continue to imply and suggest away until enough gullible dopes start quoting it as fact.

They're not putting bets on Romney getting arrested or anything. They're defining him as a duplicitous and shady plutocrat who cares more about money than he does about people or the law. Cayman island accounts, questionable SEC filings, discrepancies in sworn testimonies, outsourcing and layoffs, etc. It's working too -- swing state polling has been trending towards Obama since they started the attack and Romney's spending time and money now putting out ads trying to counter it. Not by saying anything positive about Romney but by calling Obama a big fibby-fibberhead. Which only serves to focus MORE on Romeny's Bain dealings. Hell, on the radio this morning the story was something like "Romney strikes back against Obama campaign attacks on his time at Bain, centering around Romney's claims that he left the company in 1999 when recently uncovered SEC documents show him listed as president through 2002 during a time where Bain may have been involved in outsourcing." And that was Fox News radio.

It's a tough issue for Romney because there's no easy explanations even if he has legitimate ones. I think the Boston Globe story had a Romney staffer talking about the Bain SEC discrepancies and saying (paraphrased) "I know it doesn't make any sense, but it's true".

If there really is any meat to this, then the SEC will conduct an audit. I do not think Bain Capital wants to undergo an audit when their founder is running for president.

Not that any investigation would be done before the election (that sort of inquiry could take years) but it's not going to help the narrative the Romney team has been trying to build.

I wasnt 'shocked by fat people at Disneyland'. In fact I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of fatness generally. I particularly liked the way eateries in Ca listed the calorie content of food they were selling, something that we would do well to emulate in NZ. Tho' saying there is 2100 calories in something may cause some of our Islanders to see it as a personal challenge.

Also the people I stayed with are not big eaters-out, so I'm sure I didnt get to see the 'best' that LA has to offer. Like I said tho', I enjoyed myself.

On topic abit....

I really fail to see any redeeming features in this Romney fellow. From his idiotic belief system to his 18th Century politics and so-called family-values, he's a disaster waiting to happen to the world. And Obama has shown himself to have two faces. One, where he says all the right stuff to whip his base in to a frenzy of adulation and support, and two, where he continues to escalate wars in foreign countries, support the barbaric policies of Israels leaders, and pour public money into propping up bankers and BigCorp whilst cutting back on social sevices, and encouraging dodgy as fUck construction types to build nuclear power stations.

But anyone can petulantly stomp their feet because their lousy thread didn't go the way they dreamed!

2200 views seems kind of succesful.

That's like putting up a billboard sponsoring incest with a picture of two hot "sisters" going at it. Trust me, people come back for the entertainment value, not the message.

Let me just say that I love this ad:

I love everything about it. It's brilliant. It plays up all the major points, it makes Romney look like a hypocrite. It hits the "loves money above America or people" marks. It makes him look silly with his off-key singing and it's 100% designed to get on every news show and replayed over and over at no cost to the campaign. Whoever made this ad deserves a raise. I don't care if it's accurate or not, it's a great piece of advertising.

Well, it certainly hits the "eat the rich" neural receptors.

It's well constructed, but with generic building materials.
