Btw, does Obama officially suck?Follow

Haven't been here in five years. But it's pretty clear to me that Obama **** sucks. Have all liberals here gotten around to this, or are there still some apologists? Some points:

*Obama murdered an American, and legally authorized the murder of others
*Obama tried to extend the Iraq War, only stymied because Iraq wanted home prosecution of US soldier war crimes
*Obama has continued Gitmo, and rendition
*Obama has ordered/not prevented the mandhandling of objective journalists at airports
*Obama has advocated the prosection of whistleblowers of US fiscal lawbreakers, and US military lawbreakers
*Obama has never even charged any banking executive to fault, and has immunized all previous administrations from war crimes
*Obama has started several new wars via drones: Yemen. Somalia. Libya.
*Obama has greatly increased drone strikes at Yemen and Pakistan, leading to hundreds of innocent deaths
*Obama has authorized drone strikes at weddings and funerals bystanders
*Obama has targeted "any man of military age" as an accepted target of death
*Obama has not put forth any legal rationale for any of the above, depiste FOIA and ACLU requests
*Obama has not gained anything on the Palestine-Isreal conflict
*Obama has, to the above, not prevented Israel building new houses/settlement
*Obama has, as his many formers, supported the dictator Mubarak
*Obama has saber-rattled with Iran, despite a reather equitable solution at hand, which the US rejected

Sure, maye he's better domestically. He did allow gays in the military. He achieved a universal health care that primarily beneifts health care corporations rather than individuals. He directed domestice law enforcement to not enforce marijuana, until oh, they have assraped California marijuana providers.

Seriously, he sucks. Unlike Romney, Paul, Democratic write-in, etc., Obama is a PROVEN enemy of civil liberties, the Constitution, reasonable foreign policy, and peacefulness. Anyone thinking he's going to do an about-face in his second term is a pie-in-the-sky-staring hippie idiot. Obama is a piece of **** He will continue Bush's 3rd term into the 4th with very little change.

I'll accept Obama is a PROVEN enemy of civil liberties, the Constitution, reasonable foreign policy, and peacefulness, if you'll accept that the Republicans are worse enemies of all of the above.

Seriously guys, how do you run a country when filibustering of bills is allowed, and the constitution is designed to deadlock the government 15 years out of every 16?

Correct on all charges in your little list there. I've found Obama to be a huge disappointment, myself. But I take issue with the following:

Quote:
Seriously, he sucks. Unlike Romney, Paul,

Ok, lets look at Mitt Romney's campaign website.

Regarding Israel:
Israel is the United States’ closest ally in the Middle East and a beacon of democracy and freedom in the region
I suppose it's opposite day every day for Mitt..

Quote:
As president, Mitt will reject any measure that would frustrate direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. He will make clear to the Palestinians that the unilateral attempt to decide issues that are designated for final negotiations by the Oslo Accords is unacceptable. The United States will reduce assistance to the Palestinians if they continue to pursue United Nations recognition

"Hey guys! Let's not only keep ignoring a plethora of human rights violations, but let's make the problem even worse through bullying!"

Because that's the christian way...Smiley: rolleyes

On **** marriage:

Quote:
Marriage is more than a personally rewarding social custom. It is also critical for the well-being of a civilization. That is why it is so important to preserve traditional marriage – the joining together of one man and one woman. As president, Mitt will not only appoint an Attorney General who will defend the Defense of Marriage Act – a bipartisan law passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton – but he will also champion a Federal Marriage Amendment to the Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman

Smiley: disappointed

On Russia:

Quote:
Upon taking office, Mitt Romney will reset the reset. He will implement a strategy that will seek to discourage aggressive or expansionist behavior on the part of Russia and encourage democratic political and economic reform.

I'm not going to say that Russia in it's current form is great, but I will say that the preceding quote makes a lot less sense now than it would have 20-25 years ago.

Quote:
Mitt Romney will pursue policies that work to decrease the reliance of European nations on Russian sources of energy. He will explore increasing technical assistance to the Eastern European nations currently developing the Turkey-to-Austria Nabucco natural gas pipeline, which will supply Europe with a cheaper source of energy and options apart from Russian oil and gas. A Romney administration will also work with the private sector to spur access to untapped shale energy resources in Western Europe.

Translation: We want europe to buy from sources that benefit us at the expense of another country's economy...and get the cold war back into full swing.

He's also against Stem Cell Research, **** Marriage, Immigration of those without either money, or a really good education, Public Education, affordable health care, getting the **** out of the middle east.

He is for: War with Iran, which is really bad enough on its own.

Romney scares me. Obama may not be doing a good(or even acceptable job), but he's not taking the country backwards, and Romney aims to try to do just that.

Why is he scared to move forward, why are his supporters scared?

Saying Romney doesn't suck in comparison to Obama, is ludicrous.

I'd rather have Obama as PotUS than Romney, Obama is at least trying to go forward.

Ideally, yes. But Obama had two years of a Democratic majority in Congress and didn't do **** except reward and legalize Bush's abuses. And he has demonstrated, via his own personal rulings, that went far beyond any "waiting" strategy, that he is a fascist. He might do a few things on domestic things, like overturn Defense of Marriage Act (which would be great). But he will not open up his records of assassination any more than he has. He won't pull back on drone-striking other countries. He won't pull back on US-internal espionage per person. And he won't stop warmongering.

I'd love to be proven wrong.

Hm. Maybe I can better just say: I'm an anti-incumbent voter, if the incumbent sucks. I'm willing to give a challenger the rope to demonstrate that he sucks. And if he does too, I'll vote for a challenger the next election.

Romney has already demonstrated that despite claiming to be a great businessman, he has a campaign staff that confuses Venn diagrams with Action Set diagrams (the latter is taught in business school in project management classes).

My view on Romney is this: He represents the very worst kind of capitalism in the US, the one that essentially turned people who know how to exploit the system into the new nobility of the country. The founding fathers were themselves a bunch of rich old white men, but they'd look at the wealth of Romney and people like him and shake their heads in disgust. He made his millions by preying on weak companies and destroying them, tearing apart the lives of thousands of people in the process. What has he invented? Nothing. What has he created? Nothing. Yet what does he own? Too much, too much.

Obama? Made his first million selling a book about how much it sucked being a kid with no dad. Made his next few millions selling a book about how if you work hard, stay in school, don't do (too many) drugs, you might get ahead and become a Senator.

And suddenly being elected president will make him suck less? If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it'll still be a duck when it enters the oval office.

Vote green all you want. I would never encourage someone to vote for Obama who believes he's not fit for the office, but to suggest Romney is even potentially a better candidate is to illustrate exactly how much of the right wing media's nut juice you've been gulping.

As an aside, anyone who starts off a conversation lambasting any candidate unprovoked and as relentlessly as you have is obviously not interested in civil discourse and IMO, should be disregarded, ignored and generally overlooked as a useless member of society.

Actually, the court of public opinion doesn't even really know what happened, partially because of the epic **** up of CNN and Fox News.

Romney's theoretical policy positions disturb me much more than Obama's proven policy positions.

Or, more so, Romney will serve as a rubber stamp for a GOP with proven positions that worry me even more than Romney does himself.

So basically, this election comes down to either voting for obama, and getting 4 more years of slow, stagnated progress towards fixing the mess Bush caused, or take a massive gamble and vote for Romney, hoping to get a faster resolution, and risking the likelihood of setting this country back another 20 years in many fields, such as civil rights (read: **** marriage), medicine (stem cell research), education, relations with the middle east (which I don't really mean throwing us back 20 years, so much as greatly increasing the risk for Iran starting WW3) as well as other powerful foreign nations, like Russia, all to maybe, possibly, fix one of the other things that's wrong with the country (the economy). Obama may be moving slow and doing a poor job, but at least he's trying to make progress on all fronts with at least some, albeit relatively small, success. Potentially fixing the economy at the cost of near guaranteeing colossal damage to most of everything else wrong with the country does not really seem like a wise choice to me.

This election isn't really as cut and dry as the last one was (which effectively became gamble with our future and vote Obama, or vote for McWarhawk and the bimbo and risk starting WW3 and/or royally **** the country for decades), but while both will end up being remembered as a gamble, the odds (by which I mean the results of the gamble) this time are heavily in favor of Obama. "Romney hasn't proven he won't be an effective president" is not a valid argument, given what we know about his positions and policy plans. With Obama, we know what we're getting. With Romney, we're basically saying "Ok, if I vote for you and win the gamble, I'll get $50. If I lose the gamble, I lose my right arm, my spleen, one of my kidneys, and my left nut." Romney is very much not the lesser of two evils, right now.

The problem is that the only people retaining jobs are the ones that could have easily found a job elsewhere, because they had the resources to move and the education and skills to change careers if necessary.

The ones that lost their jobs lack the money, the education, or the skills to just pick up and move to a better labor market, especially when the housing market crashed and many of them were unable to sell their homes. Structural unemployment is tough to fix.

At some point in maturity you stop referring to it as "sleepover". Like that scene in Diary of a Whimpy Kid where the fat one calls out saying "Hey, you wanna come over and play!" instead of "hanging out".

Though, "sleeping over" with friends doesn't seem like an acceptable adult thing unless they are friends you are currently sleeping with.

Because while with Romney, there's only the "high suspicion" and high probability that he'll suck, there's the fact that the level of suck being risked, is far, far greater than the extent to which Obama sucks. Romney has the potential to be one of the worst presidents since the 19th century.

Btw, does Obama officially suck?
Official? No. He's not yet completed the requirements for the highly coveted Certificate of Suckage.

Dunno. Warren G. Harding set the bar pretty high.

Then most of you should be happy that he'll get Obama off the hook.

No, trolling is coming onto a forum where you can't even remember the password of your old account and stirring the hornet's nest for the lulz.

For that, you get a gold star.

Prediction: Obama wins the popular vote, barely wins the delegates needed but does so, Dems barely hold the senate (Really don't know whats going to happen w/Brown vs Warren here in MA, but Warren can beat him), Republicans lose some seats in the house as a few tea party candidates scare enough people into voting against them, & over the next 4 years not a whole lot changes.

Maybe DOMA gets repealed/loses in the Supreme Court & Obama does something about the Drug War, but we definitely continue the trend of killing more & more "bad guys" via remote control.

If Obama wins, I predict it'll be a comfortable win. Not a blow-out like last time and he'll lose surprise flips from 2008 like N. Carolina and Indiana but if he's carrying one of the Midwest swings, it's because he's carrying most/all of them and same with the western swing states.

In the future, maybe shotgunning fifteen fairly vague criticisms isn't the best way to open a dialogue. Pick a couple, flesh out an actual argument, etc.

And a thread title with a slightly more neutral tone might help.
