BTW, has Romney committed a felony? He filed in his primary financial disclosure forms that he left Bain Capital in 1999. This was partially due to some criticisms from his fellow candidates for the nomination that he was in charge of Bain when it bought out a medical waste company that dealt with aborted fetuses (honestly, first I heard of
that particular attack line. I think it came from Santorum's camp.) If he left Bain before the company was acquired in 2001, then he wasn't involved in the decision. (For its part, Bain is now saying he took some time off to go run the Salt Lake City Olympics, which is exactly the sort of thing bored rich CEOs go and do, I guess.)
However, Bain Capital filed in
their SEC disclosure forms that he was a paid CEO until 2002 (meaning, he continued to draw a paycheck until then.) Romney also said previously that he was a dedicated executive of Bain and would either fly back in for board meetings or telephone in if he needed to.
Both cannot be true. Even if he wasn't involved in decisions at Bain in 2002, he was still getting paid a salary, meaning his disclosure forms for his campaign contain false information and he's been hedging about his involvement in the company. Or Bain lied in its SEC filings about paying him as their CEO, which is a felony.
Honestly, this probably won't have much impact in the election, but it sure does make Romney look like a putz.
