The things I see on television suggest otherwise.
Then you should really stop watching The Real Housewives and Jersey Shore.
I've heard many terms used to describe those shows, but "back water hicks" hasn't been one of them.
Never really heard them described as "television shows" either.

It was also delicious. It went well with our veggie dogs (dressed with homemade kimchi)

That's one thing America and Canada really has in common

I want to argue, but given that I live in the midwest, and know that their are only 4 areas (Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Indianapolis, for those not from the region) that aren't pretty goddamn backwater/rural out here in flyover country, I've got nothing to retort with. Also, apparently everyone hates you Nil, what'd you do? It won't change the fact that I still love you (We've bonded in the meadhall, you, me, and gaxey), but I'm totally curious, because I wanna give you sh*t about it, too Smiley: motz

Having been to all four, I agree, given how ******* massive Chicago is (I live in Bloomington, but I have a doctor's appointment in Chicago on monday... at 9am.... the last one was at 3pm, and that took us 3 hours (2 to get to the city). SO many degrees of "not looking forward to it."), but you can't deny that St. Louis, KC, and Indy are fairly urban areas. relative to the rest of the midwest. Also, lolchicago, thinking they're the windiest part of the state.

Yea... most of the Brits I know are pretty far from "polite", though I'm sure part of that is due to my being an American. The ones that I've seen be polite, however, rarely stay that way long. Also joph, you borked the quote, since I didn't say that bit. I would have made sure to mention that all Brits are clinically obsessed with tea, to the point that missing tea time is sacrilege, and a capital offense.

The Dutch aren't the polite ones, they're the potheads. They are polite, but that's mostly because they're so mellow from being perpetually stoned that they can't muster up enough of a @#%^ to be rude. If I were to pick on nationality to be the overly polite one, it'd probably be either Germans (if you want a European country) or Canadians (if we're talking world-wide). It'd be Japanes people, but they're all raging xenophobes, hiding behind their polite masks. Honestly, the Brits aren't really rude, either, I agree with "snarky" being the best term. The rude ones would be, based on my own personal experiences, the Italians. The French are more obnoxious than rude, and I've met some cool French people, but I've never spoken with a single Italian person (born/raised in Italy, not italian americans like you find on Jersey shore, though they're a close second) who didn't have me wanting to strangle them within 10 minutes of conversation. @#%^ Italians.

edit: National Stereotypes are fun Smiley: laugh

Actually, when I was a junior in high school, we had a guy from Italy as an exchange student and he was a total sweetheart. In addition to having the sexy accent. He was also incredibly naive, either that or really good at playing stupid. One of my classmates succeeded in convincing him that Americans are so dirty, we wear condoms on our tongues when we kiss. But in general, from what I hear, Italians tend to be very pushy and aggressive. Or at least the men are.
