New with me? I actually have had to hire a lawyer familiar with cyber crime (internet lawyer) because an adjunct who was not rehired targeted myself and two other students to national media and total strangers (I still haven't figured out how doing that will get her job back. But, she went so far as to contact the department chair of my grad school, to send angry weird psychobabble emails. One of her emails to him, accused me of being an "agent" of the University.... Double Oh Dummy, thats me!) I also filed a complaint with UPD.

I think it's karma in some way biting me in the **** for being such a putz years ago (ironic I have to hire an internet lawyer)

So yeah, I owe you all an apology and thanks for giving me 2nd, 3rd,4th..chances. I owe all the old asylumites coffee. (hopefully I'll still be alive to do it, this lady is so bent, she's been contacting Al Jazeera to tell "her story".)

On a better note, my husband got us Six Flags passes, so I've been taking the kids almost every day. (and lost a few pounds from just walking around the park)

As for cigarette butts, as a little kid I didn't know any better and played with them on the street. No one in my house smoked because my older sister had asthma. I didn't know what a cigarette was, other than the cool looking thing other families had that we didn't. Now as an adult I'm allergic to the tar additives in them. (Confirmed again at my last doctor's visit - and she gave me permission to point blank tell people as much if they light up around me.)

My city started a successful campaign called "The Cigarette Fairy." Shortly after that, someone designed a special "cigarette litter receptacle" and as a pilot program installed a bunch downtown. They are too small for other trash. Since then, the number of butts downtown has decreased tremendously, and lots of other cities are adopting the CLR as an option for keeping parks and public spaces butt free.

I dug around and found that thing to watch it. It was pretty interesting, from the perspective of someone who enjoys that type of show, but it had a very distinct "District 9 as told by actual scientists, instead of Hollywood" vibe to the story telling method, so I can sort of see how stupid people and/or conspiracy theorists mistook it for being real. The fact that the fiction disclaimer didn't come until the last minute probably didn't help matters.

Even still. If I saw a show that claimed to be proving the existence of a mythological creature, I would first do a google search or something along those lines, to see if it had been reported elsewhere, before demanding that the government provide a source to back it up. If ANYONE had a legitimate claim to proving the existence of a mythological creature, it would be all over the news everywhere. People need to work on their logic skills. I would think most people had this level of common sense. It's pretty basic.

I think it's a pretty small deal over-all. The litter law has been on the books for years and hasn't really proven to be a hardship for even the most destitute citizens of the realm. I'm not sure why, or even if, cigarette butts were exempt, but now they are specifically included.
