My husband says it's just another one of my stupid little projects, still, I'm going to attempt to make some hypertufa gardening pots this weekend. I needed a rain free weekend - this is forecast to be that.

These guys are supposed to moderate moisture levels well. I've been trying, for a few years now, to winter over a couple of less hardy herbs by potting them and moving them indoors, but haven't had much success. It's hard to keep the plants moist-enough without drowning the roots. My plan is to simply grow the herbs right in the pot outside and then move them inside when things freeze up. If nothing else however, one can never have too many gardening containers.

Also I dug my bike out last weekend, so I might peddle around some.

What are you doing this weekend?

Playing golf with the old man for Father's Day. Then grilling and drinking beer for the remainder of the weekend.

I can honestly say I've never even heard of this before. Is there some website with a list of Pokemon drink recipes?

Mother-in-law is visiting for a week so things are being dominated by that.

On Saturday, Flea and I are going to the local festival. Goo Goo Dolls are playing so I can watch a bunch of 40 year olds try and remember the lyrics to Iris.

Re-reading that, it should obviously be "try TO..." but saying "try and..." comes naturally to me and would go unremarked upon in conversation. I wonder is that's a regional thing.

Grammar Girl makes it sound as though it's a common and accepted casual idiom and doesn't remark on any geographic preference so I guess it's nationally used.

Hi, Grammar Girl. This is Shannon in Phoenix, Arizona. I was hoping you could set the record straight about the use of try and versus try to. For example, "I'm going to try and give Grammar Girl a call," versus "I'm going to try to give Grammar Girl a call." My inclination is that try to is the only correct construction, however I increasingly hear people say "try and." Could you please set this straight. I'm dying to have an authority hold forth on this. Thanks.

Hi, Shannon. I got really frustrated while researching this topic because none of my books seemed willing to take a stand. They all said "try and" is an accepted informal idiom that means "try to." They say to avoid "try and" in formal writing, but not to get too worked up about it otherwise. But none of them addressed what bothers me about the phrase "try and," which is that if you use and, as in your example sentence -- I'm going to try and call Grammar Girl -- you are separating trying and calling. You're describing two things: trying and calling. When you use "try to" -- as in I am going to try to call Grammar Girl -- you are using the preposition to to link the trying to the calling.

Anyway, now I've learned something today despite my best efforts.

Saturday morning the dog goes for shots, but I think that's the only thing scheduled.

I could use a relaxing weekend. Things have been pretty busy around here lately.

Flea is making him clean. Also-tonight we eat carbs! Mom will cook this week, but it will consist largely of spinach egg whites and chicken breast with quinoa. Everyone in my family except for me is a health freak. Plus side-I will probably lose 10lbs this week.

I saw them at a free concert in...hmm...Raleigh? It was a couple years ago. Probably one of the worst performances I've seen, but I don't know if it was their fault, really. The volume on the backup vocalist's mic was turned up almost twice as loud as the lead singer's.

He was totally aware of it, and was trying to sorta half-sing quietly to compensate. Except, it just sounded like really loud, wavery half-singing drowning out the lead.

Also, the lead singer did the "sing into audience members cell phones" thing way too much. Dude needs a few other moves.

OMG your e-mail promised me Goo Goo Dolls!!!

Hang on, I'm gonna pretend to be upset. You know, I think I OWNED that album back in the day and damned if I can think of another Gin Blossoms song besides Hey Jealousy. Each time I think I have one, it's "Oh, no.. wait... that's Lemonheads/Toad the Wet Sprocket/Soul Asylum/..."

There's...uh..."Till I Hear it from You", "Mrs. Rita" and....um.....oh! "Found Out About You". I think that's all I got.

Also, Toad the Wet Sprocket were awesome.

Trying to survive.

Got a case of summer flu that is kicking my ***. Been trying to rest for the last 2 days, but tomorrow is my son's 3rd birthday party, so resting is out of the question.

Getting new furniture today. Couch, couple chairs, dining table, all that jazz. So now I can watch tv in a chair that is a bit more comfortable than a recliner I had since 03 (a cheep one at that). I may or may not post pics, depends if I can be ***** and how drunk I may get.

Other than that it is going to be a relatively quiet weekend. Besides mowing the grass nothing else is planned. Yay for playing some video games. Smiley: nod

Edit: Hurp derp, speling hurd.

You need to get on that. I bet that you would have your spawn by today.

Xavier is on summer vacation, so I've been outside doing picnics, parks, and beach (yes, all in the same day....yawn) today. J has asked that we keep it low key this weekend since we haven't had a lazy day weekend in about 6 weeks. Since its Fathers Day this weekend I agreed. Although we are heading out to an awesome taproom pub for lunch on Sunday.

Other than that, I'm planning Soren's birthday party for next weekend. Cause you know, he's turning three this Thursday Smiley: eekSmiley: eek

I'll be back at other work supervising the final connection to the first of our two new UPS units in the headquarters server room on Saturday. Sunday i'm headed over to my parents house for a fathers day barbeque. If I get a chance, I may try and finish the mill calibration so i can seal the top plate and start using the damned thing.

Okay, FINE. I'm moving the goal to Father's Day, but after that you're going to have to wait until July 4.

Maybe you need to jump rope or take some castor oil or something.

Yeah, cause there's nothing like having explosive diarrhea during labor to make a child's birth special and memorable. People who use castor oil to go into labor are ******* crazy. And I can barely get up and down off the couch, let alone jump rope, haha.

I think if you just step over the rope instead of actually jumping, it still counts. At least in the last trimester.

Alternatively you could just start shipping in furniture and charging rent.
