I would have thought a pirate's more immediate concern would be scurvy.

No matter what anyone tells you, gluten free bread would taste better if they tried to make it taste like ***.

I got a promotion at work. It came with a title but no raise.

My mother has Celiac disease. I've tried numerous gluten free breads that she's tried. All are disgusting. The worst I've tried was one based on a tapioca... the bread had to be refrigerated, and had the consistency of a firm pudding. Various crackers, cookies, and pastas she has taste just fine, but any breads are just nasty. She has given up on bread.

I'm glad I did not inherit it from her. I enjoy bread and other wheat products too much.

I got a "raise" today. 2.5%. I say "raise" because in reality they are just in the process of giving back small portions of the 10% they took from us back in 2008 when the economy crashed. With this 2.5%, it makes it 6.5% returned. They still owe us 3.5%, and then I'll be back to making what I was five years ago.

Congrats Nads!

I sold my condo finally, after almost a year since I put it on the market. I took a little hit on it, but it turns out it was a single mom who bought it so I don't feel as bad about it.

Now I just have to find a house to buy. The market has picked up so they go fast. In the meantime I get to stay at a friends house, and their place is pretty nice. I have a room in the basement that they hardly go down to, and they have a 70 inch HD TV set up down there.

It's a rough life I tell ya.

Lets see, I'm pretty sure i'm not running for office at the moment, or the rest, so random topics it is. I am an Uncle now though, so that kind of counts sort of?

I finally got my CNC mill to the "things move!" stage. It's amusing watching something I built and partially designed do stuff.

My mom has extensive knowledge of the gluten free existance, and numerous resources and recipies associated therin. If you want any specific type of recipies or want to know anything specific about the gluten, I can probably get said info very quickly.

Civilization V expansion that supposedly fixes all the Civilization V shortfalls compared to IV is due out this month.

Doing some data entry for Xerox. I'm just happy it has nothing to do with food service. Working at the country club was fun and all, but let's face it. I'm old as hell. I need a job that's not physical.

And yay Kao, glad to hear about the Civ V expansion. Doubt I'll get it right away since we have to move out of my sister's house and all, haha. But once we're out and settled in our own place, let the gaming begin!

This is the only topic I feel comfortable with. If you've not played Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you need to. Just get some Sims game for decorating puppies. You can also abuse your e-kids, burn down your house e-house, cheat on your e-spouse and get fired from your e- job in SIMS.

I heard that Zynga, fb's game company took a big hit on it's stock this week. The speculation is that fb games are a passing fad. Are they?

My baby addition; About 3 weeks ago, my nephews gf had a little baby girl. They named her Boston (after the Red Sox).

My mother and step father are gluten free and one of the children we provide daycare to is gluten free.

It can be expensive but is certainly doable. Snack that tastes good and can still be eaten will be horrible for you (chips, cheddar snacks can be eaten) since the healthier options are no longer options in a lot of cases, popcorn is good, just check to make sure the flavouring doesn't include gluten. You have to be very careful what you get when you eat out. Ribs you can eat, but you can only have certain sauces on them and you have to confirm that the sauce is gluten free if you're at a restaurant (most places are good about this and will let you bring your own if they don't have an option for you).

Good breads are doable but very time consuming (in the 5 hour range) to make and require special flower that costs about the same as good coffee beans. Ezekiel 4:9 bread is a good option that can be purchased in grocery stores (edit to clarify, not ALL Ezekiel breads are gluten free, you still have to check), keep it in the freezer and pull a piece out as you need it, it's about $5-$6 for a small loaf but it's rather heavy so not as bad as it sounds. We use it to make grilled cheese for the little one.

Liquors, nothing wheat based (gluten = wheat), so no whiskey. Stick to clear liquors. Most wines will be ok just depends on what is added to them during production.

There are rice based gluten free cereals that are quite tasty. Again you pay a bit of a premium but it's one of the cheaper snack options.

If I had to average it out it's about 40-50% more expensive to eat gluten free but that'll depend on what you're used to eating, if you already avoid breads etc then there won't be as much of an increase.

If you're going gluten free due to an allergy you need to go completely gluten free or don't bother. It's a not a more is worse situation it's a if it's there you have symptoms situation. You generally don't even know they are symptoms until they go away. My mother couldn't walk through the mall due to joint pain and various "injury pains", now she jogs, dances and bike rides with no issues whatsoever. If she accidentally ingests some gluten she's right back to square one for a few days.

Gluten free recipes. They look really good and some are but most are more bland than you would expect.

It would anger Mall Security. No one wants that.

I never played that. I'll ask Joph about it. As for the Sims, I don't want the stupid online characters yelling at me whenever I log on. I want a game that I can safely drop for long periods of time. I got a lot going on in RL.
Don't know anything about Zynga.

I suspect that it's due to an allergy, but I won't know for sure until the test results come back. In any case, I hear that it helps with Hashimoto's, which is my bag, so I'd like to try it and see if there's a difference.

You don't have to go online for SIMS, at least when I used to play it I didn't. It was a stand-alone game. My daughter and my sister love the smurf village game. They play on their smarty devices and I feel left out.

Zynga owns Farmville and other FB games.

I play Zynga's Castleville game and I enjoy that one. Since they started adding quests, it almost feels like an RPG, which makes me like it more. I also occasionally play the Hunger Games too, and a Slots game (cause the flashy lights are pretty!). They're fun, but I'd still rather play a real video game.

SIMS was fun, but I eventually found myself micromanaging every aspect of several different character's lives, which was a little unnerving. Also the bug in SIMS2 where you'd put to people in bed together and would never be able to get them up again. That sucked, having to move a family out of a house, or lose your characters.

Also, the idea if you force a kid to paint in all his free time they'd be perfectly happy and wouldn't need a job later in life... Smiley: lol
