I've been feeling music deficient. For whatever reason, I've not been keeping up on the new, nor seeking out fresh old.

I did just see that the young Swedish folk picker, Kristian Matsson (aka The Tallest Man on Earth) has a new album coming out (LISTEN HERE). I'm listening now.

Still I need further replenishment. Feed me.

Their individual channels are also solid.

I recognize the Aquabats from Nick Jr.

I'm not interested in any new music. But I am trying to teach myself the guitar so I can play all my favorite oldies.

Check out WYCE.org. It's the local public radio station in Grand Rapids, MI. They play a very eclectic mix of jazz, blues, rock, folk and world beat music,

I can't link you to anything because I'm at work, but check out a band from the New Orleans area called Future Leaders of the World. they have a new single out that I can best describe as rock, even though the lead singer sounds like he would be better off in a soul or blues group.

I used to listen to a band called Future Leaders Of The World when I was in high school. Is this the same band? All I can find doing an admittedly lazy search are links to the stuff from back then.

I can't listen to anything here now in court, but can you describe some of your favorite groups and go from there? Also, Pandora is great. Input your favorite music and it will help you by suggesting newer bands that it thinks you might like. I know there are other services out there that do the same thing, but this is the one that has worked for me.

Edit: Also Shazam/Soundhound apps for when you hear a song you like at the Old Navy or whatever and think *********** I wish I knew who sang that."

I rarely listen to music when in the car, but on the way home last night the local station was doing a 1 hour show called "NOLA Rocks" and it was supposed to be all local music. It's entirely possible I heard the name of the band wrong because I am now experiencing the same thing as you in only finding stuff from an old band named FLOTW (since renamed Machina) that does not appear to be from the New Orleans area.

After doing the NOLA Jazz Fest this year, I have a new found respect for many of the New Orleans funk bands. Galactic, Lettuce, Soulive, Papa Grows Funk, are all phenomenal live acts. Also the band that started it all, The Meters, and the subsequent derivations thereof.

I miss Pandora. Maybe on day they'll let us Canadians use it again. One day...

It's possible. The one I was talking about is the Machina one. They were an ok band. Still listen to them from time to time. I was wondering, cause I'd like to check it out if they've been making new music. It's hard to find stuff about "local" music no matter where you are unless you know exactly where to look.

I can't access the radio station's website at work, but I'll check it out when I get home and let you know. They should have something on there about the bands they were featuring during the "locals hour".

Edit: According to FLOTW and Machina's discography on Wikipedia, their last albums were released in 2011.

Would help to know what you like.

Depending on my mood, I've been listening to Wye Oak, Shearwater, Mountain Goats, Wilco, and a lot of older stuff - REM, Willie Dixon, Van Morrison, Allman Brothers.

Cool, I might have to check that out. Didn't know they were still making music that recently, wonder if the music sounds any different these days..

Bowie just re-released "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" digitally remastered, if that tickles your fancy.

The first LP I ever bought was the Doobie Brothers Captain and Me. Anyone remember Black Oak Arkansas?

You guys are tapping into my memories this morning. My first date with my husband was a CNS concert.

Southern Cross is on my lifetime list of favs, I'd forgotten about Cathedral. It never got as much play time as it deserved.

If it's the same band I heard on the radio Sunday night, it's a bluesy-rocky sort of sound. As I said, the best way to describe it is a rock song with a blues singer's voice doing the vocals.
