Gay, married MormonFollow

#1 Jun 08 2012 at 6:56 PM Rating: Good
So apparently Josh Weed is sexually attracted to men, has never been sexually attracted to women, yet he is happily married to a woman and has three daughters and "a great sex life." This is quite an interesting read.

http://www.gawker.com/5917022/im-a-gay-mormon-whos-been-happily-married-for-10-years?utm_campaign=socialflow_gawker_facebook&utm_source=gawker_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

I know, Gawker again. But we get the stories on our FaceBook feed, so that's why I've linked to it twice now. The guy didn't want to give up his religion, and he says he's happy. It just seems weird and I don't know what I really think about this. Part of me thinks good on him for finding a "happy" medium for himself. Half of me isn't sure I believe him.

And the third half of me thinks that if he ever gave in to his sexual attractions he would never go back.

So my question is if SSM becomes the norm, does that mean Mormon (MOREMAN JOKE HERE) can have multiple same sex spouses? My follow up question is, will it be the next thing we hear from idiots about keeping it from happening?

Setting the record straight, Mormons do not practice polygamy. A few sects who left the church proper after they stopped practicing polygamy at the turn of the 19th-20th century still do, and they're terrible and tend to be in the news, getting arrested for both polygamy and child abuse. Mainstream Mormons do not, and can not practice polygamy. Anyone who uses that in an argument against SSM, is dumber than the average homophobe.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Lolgaxe knows that present-day latter-days don't engage in polygamy.

Back on topic, I've talked to a gay man before who insisted that following the mores of his religion and meeting the expectations of his family were more important to him than living as an out gay man. He wanted to marry a woman and have kids and keep everyone happy, and he was positive that he would manage to be happy himself. Everybody makes compromises, right? People marry spouses whom their families find suitable. People have kids to please their spouse, or their parents. Happens all the time.

I wonder what ever happened to that guy, now that I think about him.

I suppose, for a person blessed/cursed with a low sex drive and an active imagination, that it'd be possible to live such a life and be somewhat happy.

I dunno, I'm thinking that most men, gay or straight, are just happy to have their **** in a hole, any old hole. They can desire whatever they want, but as long as there's a port, they can weather any storm.

As a straight man, I can say that I do not desire my **** to be in any hole of another man, and would not be happy if it was.

While I have a hard time imagining another man (gay or otherwise) not finding a woman's body appealing, I won't pretend that gay men secretly like ******* and would be fine plowing women.

Of course it will, we already ARE hearing about it. I'm sure it'd come as no surprise to anyone that I fully support polygamy/polyandry marriages, as long as all parties are of legally marriageable age. Is it a huge deal to me? No, not really, because at the present time there is only one person I am interested in marrying. The other partners I have just aren't at that level of seriousness, even though I do consider myself to love one of them. But the only somewhat logical argument against is is the same as the one against gay marriage, that'll it'll cost tax payers more money. I don't think that's a fair argument, but I understand it at least. Still, not having legalized poly marriages isn't going to keep me from practicing my lifestyle.

The only legit argument against poly marriages I've heard is one I tend to agree with; inheritance laws, custody laws, divorce laws, and a slew of other laws are ill-equipped to handle more than 2 people in a marital contract and would all have to be re-written from the ground up. At least with gay marriage, most existing laws are capable of accommodating two partners in any sort of combination with minimal re-coding.

It's more than just too much work. It's untidy work - if kids are involved it could get downright unsanitary (in a red tape-ish sort of way).

Yeah, I can see where it would get messy, sure. There are a lot of parameters. Are non-bio parents in the marriage accorded the same rights as bio parents, or are they automatically considered adoptive parents, or is there some other status they should be accorded?

Decide that, and most of the messiness dissipates. Once in a while a big poly family will implode, and kids will want to live with non-bio parents or some such. That very likely happens right now in blended families. Family courts seem to handle such situations without too much whining about how hard it is.

And wills could easily fix the inheritance issue. I know not everyone writes wills, but if I was in a poly marriage I'd make damn sure to have a will set up, especially if kids were involved.

OMG we could pay-per-view that and make a fortune.

We would need translators, though. Or subtitles.

Don't you need people willing to pay to make pay-per-view work properly?

Yes, I know PPV comedy hasn't caught on yet (except for certain "professional" wrestling events), but with those two arguing, how could we lose?
