I'm pretty comfortable with it being unrecognizable for the rest of my life. When I see signs for camping in French, I just drive the other way until I haven't seen an Irving for 50 miles.

I have no summer plans other than family trip to either Universal Studios or Knott's, not sure which one yet.
I always use the summer downtime to do as much house, yard and garage stuff before winter comes. Because it sucks to do yardwork in 50 degree weather in San Diego.

I'm on vacation right now. Sorta. Mostly consisting of me sitting around the house and attending to stuff that I don't normally take the time for. I had a grand scheme to drive up to Julian for some pie last week, but there was some sort of wildfire going on there, so I figured that was a bad idea. What it did do was bookend the yearly family memorial day event, so it didn't end out nearly as exhausting a holiday as usual. Not having to go to work the day after we did a big nature hike and day at the park was really nice (sunburn bad!). Oh... And unbeknownst to us, the little park we choose happened to be right next to the local VFW and someone decided to land helicopters there. Including a pretty cool military one. Was a great bonus for the kids, even the older ones. 
Sadly, this weeks days off will be short since I have Jury duty starting tomorrow. Should be fun though. Oddly enough, this is the first time I've actually been called in for duty. Every time before this, I get one of the standby notices, check it each day for a week, and never have to come down. Funny thing is I was talking to a friend of mine just a couple months ago about this, and he lamented that he *always* got summoned and had to spend a day or more. Apparently, I ticked off the god of karma with that one.

We're already done with the Big Trip (which was Tokyo) last week. Due to my summer schedule, his summer schedule, and then the start up of fall schedule in August, we won't get another stab at a big vacay this year. We talked about perhaps a weekend in Vegas if we're really bored, and we'll probably flee to the mountains at least once during the hottest days, but we won't have more than 3-4 days off concurrently until Christmas break.

He was closer to 3 than 2 (32 months to be exact) and he was completely aware of what was going on. He was able to name most of his favorite characters and had a great time. I don't regret spending the money or taking the trip at all. It would have been nice if I hadn't been separated from my wife so I could have had more help with my son than my mom, but overall it wasn't bad. The only thing is, no trip to Disney World can in any way be considered a relaxing vacation.
Now, I'm going to use up another 7 days of paid time off to have surgery. Granted, I'll get to relax more, but not exactly for the reason I want to.

We went in October 2001. About five weeks after 9/11. The entire park was deserted and you just walked up to a ride and got on or walked up to a character and snapped some photos with your kids. The park staff seemed thrilled that someone was willing to risk Al'Qaeda bombing the Magic Kingdom and spend a few bucks.
What I'm saying is to try and plan your vacations around major terrorist attacks.

We did our DC vacation trip in 2002. The White House, even the lawn, was still inaccessible. The Washington Monument had only limited access. Security was out of control. I think i had to have my bag searched to get a hot dog from the cart out on the mall. When we go to florida now, we get free access to any of the disney parks with vip passes for parking and transport. We usually limit it to one day at Epcot with maybe a brief excursion to one of the other parks for a thrilling ride (I <3 Tower of Terror). We take no kids and have no need to see lots or do lots. I laugh inside at the stressed parents being drug along by crazed kids. My only demand when we go is to indulge in patries at Frenchland.
It's pretty relaxing.

I think the issue with taking a young child to a huge place like that is that they aren't likely to remember it. My parents took me to Disney Land for my 3rd birthday, and I don't remember it at all. The pictures are nice though. My earliest memories are from my 4th birthday party.

I never went to Disneyland as a kid, don't feel the urge to as an adult and to this end I steer Joph the 3rd away from all Disney channels and other entertainment. Sesame Street, ********
I would totally pay money to go to a Sesame Street theme park.
As we're talking about Disney...
Did a day trip down to Animal Kingdom two weeks ago to meet up with my college roommates (one was visiting from PA). Wasn't really a vacation as Orlando is like 2 hours away, but I guess it sorta goes with the theme of the thread?
... in sad news, I won't be going to E3 this year
The company who wanted to sponsor someone couldn't get the funding for it. I'm actually a lot more bummed out than I thought I would be. Ah well. One of these days I'll get to go to a gaming convention for ZAM. Next time, Gadget... next time!

I'd say it's worth experiencing at least once in your life. My parents took me a second time when I was 10, and I have a lot of good memories from that trip.

Me and a few trends did the Disney trip our freshman year of college. We had a blast. I remember getting the chick who does the tour at The Living Seas at Epcot to take us up and see the dolphins getting trained. We had a four day pass that let us visit Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Universal (I think) then one of those parks a second time. We went to the Magic Kingdom twice and the second time we were so exhausted I remember sitting on the monorail for almost an hour just waiting on the next shuttle to our hotel. I also remember the voice doing the announcing sounded a lot like Troy McClure from The Simpsons.
