Barry Intercepts the J!Follow

#1 May 26 2012 at 4:42 AM Rating: Good
From the forthcoming book by Pulitzer Prize winner David Maraniss, Barack Obama: The Story, comes this amusing factoid:

Quote:
Barry also had a knack for interceptions. When a joint was making the rounds, he often elbowed his way in, out of turn, shouted "Intercepted!," and took an extra hit. No one seemed to mind.

More importantly: Does that make him a socialist for sharing, or a capitalist for taking advantage of his peers?

No, the important question is, how germane is this? The last three Presidents have been known to do recreational drugs. At least the Democrats stuck to pot.

When are we going to legalize the evil weed and stop fighting this pointless battle?

I've always thought pot was a waste of time, but at least he was doing it at an appropriate time in his life, as opposed to say, when he was managing a business or trying to support a family.

The real question that this interception thing raises, is that with a name like Barack Obama, how good of a cornerback would he have made? I bet, if he worked at it, he could have beaten out Jabari Greer, at least.

Had he been named D'Barack, he'd be rivaling Nnamdi Asomugha.

Didn't he also admit to having tried cocaine or heroin in one of his books? Although really, who cares what drugs he's tried as long as he did them when he was young and stupid like Flea said?

I think that my first wake up call to how hypocritical Republicans (although politicians in general really) are, was when George was running back in 2000 and got his dirty laundry aired. I was only 8 when Clinton ran the first time, but I still remember people making a big deal out of him having smoked pot when he was in college. Then Bush runs when I'm 16 and the Republicans seem to not care that he did cocaine and was an alcoholic while he had a family. I guess since he was supposedly done with that life style, that made it okay. Smiley: rolleyes

Exactly. For the evangelicals who have taken over the GOP, being a good person is not enough. You must be a convert, because someone told them there' s no saint like a converted sinner. Hence, regular good Christians are not quite special enough.

Not everyone feels a compulsory need to try a mind altering substance just because their friends are doing it. I'm not saying I haven't tried it, or that I object to people that do it, but the attitude that it's as common as say, breathing, is just ******* stupid. Personally, pot makes me sleepy and that's about it. If it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy or whatever, that's cool too, but I find that people who are overly open about their desire to smoke / history of smoking pot are usually trying to compensate for something.

I second that.

I can't wait for the hilarity that people like Gbaji and possibly Theifx will say about this. Should be at least mildly amusing.

Umm, where were you 4 years ago? This is not a new revelation. The only thing to say about any of it is that the lack of coverage given to the things that the President admits to in his own books (and reads himself for the audiobooks) is shameful when compared to the coverage similar rumors about other sitting presidents and candidates receive.

I've never smoked either. I don't have anything against it, but the illegality, the difficulty of procurement (compared to picking up a beer from the local store), and the social stigma are enough to keep me disinterested.

Alcohol takes care of any need that pot would hypothetically address. I don't really need another vice.

Not really much of a story to someone admitting to something as there is to one going out of their way to deny it. If you really want to spin it negatively, just call it a ploy made up by the administration to show the President better relates to the youth vote.

I'm one of those weird people that actually really like the smell of pot.

It makes my mom sleepy too. That's weird. I thought she was just strange.

Me too. Love everything about it actually.

I'd love to see it legalized, then controlled, taxed, and sold like liquor(in Canada(or at least Ontario, notsure about elsewhere), where you have to go to a licensed liquor store to get it and be 19(18 in some provinces)). But that's unrealistic, despite the logic.

It's possible that it could just be the type they've tried. Not all marijuana is the same. But, then again, it's not for everyone.
