In her defense, Matthew McConaughey is an equally awful actor.

Except in Dazed and Confused, Reign of Fire and Tropic Thunder.

Really, he should just avoid rom-coms.

Two of those were alright enough, and I guess you can't blame McConaughey's acting on Reign of Fire when that movie was just awful with or without him.

Reign of Fire is a cinematic masterpiece! Smiley: mad

Also, the fact that it featured Christian Bale and Gerard Butler, both pre-stardom, is kind of fascinating.

Yeah, I don't recall the storyline much, but I loved Reign of Fire. It was sure exciting to watch for us dragon-worshippers.

The British awaken yet another dragon army while excavating for a subway/sewer/dragon-proof shelter?
20-30 years pass
Awesome medieval re-enactment of Empire Strikes Back by Europeans survivors in an old castle
Dragon attacks people stealing crops near the castle
Americans appear and attack castle dragons
Americans leave castle to hunt dragons and get ambushed
Americans return to castle, European survivors make snide remarks
Male dragon attacks castle, Butler dies cursing the English
Americans and European survivors decide to commit mass suicide by attacking dragon nest in London
McConaughey leads the group by jumping directly into the male dragon's maw
Bale tries to outdo McConaughey and fails, killing the male dragon in the process
End credits

I guess my opinion is clouded because the first movie I remember seeing her in was L.A. Story, and at the time I thought she was pretty attractive.

A-fucking-men. At least Katherine Heigl is easy on the eyes for 110 minutes of 3rd grade pageant level acting in a date night movie.

God ****, Failure to Launch was a horrible movie.

I think it's safer to say that most Rom-Coms are horrible movies. Some have their funny moments, but honestly I'd much rather watch a regular comedy or an action flick (as long as it has a decent plot). Or even better, a period drama. Those are my chick flicks of choice.

What's funny, is my boyfriend wants to go see Rom-Coms more often than I do. In his defense, he thus far has done a good job of picking the funny ones. But I still hate myself a bit inside for enjoying them.

A good movie, is a good movie, don't beat yourself up because it involves 'romance'. Many here previously listed Princess Bride as a favorite movie. I put PB into the romantic comedy column.

Along the same lines, I found the recent flick Love and Other Drugs to actually be a pretty good movie, despite containing a few well-worn rom-com cliches.

It helped that you got to see Anne Hathaway flounce around naked for most of it.

Not a big fan of hers, myself. Haven't seen a good performance from her, though admittedly I haven't seen many of her movies.

But really, it's that her eyes freak me out...something about the way they tilt downwards to the outside. It's like one of those versions of the Mona Lisa where they flip around the eyes and mouth. Smiley: um

If my end goal is just to see an anonymous naked body, there are easier ways to do it than watching Love and other Drugs.

I'd say I answered it quite fully. Just apply deductive reasoning:

I'm not interested in watching the movie, for starters. Nor am I into Anne Hathaway. I don't need to watch it just to see a naked person, as there are many more viable options. So there's no possible scenario where I'd be watching this scene, and, by extension, no possible scenario where I'd be looking at her eyes, and not her naked body.

See, the eyes (and my disinterest in her as an actress) are a non-starter. It prevents your scenario from ever occurring.

Yes, but there's a difference between a good movie and an entertaining movie. Sometimes they overlap, like with Princess Bride (one of my favorites too), others don't like The Ugly Truth. That was one that I hated myself a little for enjoying. So many of those movies are just so sexist, it bothers me. You have an *** hole hot dude, and a hot woman who often is a bit neurotic but overall is a nice person, they get together, the guy is a jerk, one of them (usually the dude) screws up and they split. Then at the last scene, someone does something redeeming and they get back together. It's one thing if the guy is a genuine nice guy but did something stupid to **** off the girl. Like in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He cheated with his ex briefly, but as soon as he got his head together he left, and went immediately to tell his new girl what had happened. I'm glad she forgave him in that movie. But too often the guy is a jerk who doesn't deserve to be forgiven, but he's forgiven anyways because everybody loves a happy ending! Smiley: glare That is the main reason why I detest romantic comedies. That and every single one I've seen has the same **** plot.

Good point. Why engage in pedantic diatribes about the viability of scenarios involving Anne Hathaway naked when there's still so much discussion to be mined from Dragon Age?

Quick, regale me with more tales of how you gave an item to that one character, and her loyalty totally went up 5 points.

My, aren't I feisty today?
