Respected Republican Pollster advises Pubbies to Reverse Course on Gay Issues
Quote:

“As people who promote personal responsibility, family values, commitment and stability, and emphasize freedom and limited government we have to recognize that freedom means freedom for everyone. This includes the freedom to decide how you live and to enter into relationships of your choosing, the freedom to live without excessive interference of the regulatory force of government.

Gay Rights is now a conservative issue! Heh.

This is pretty awesome sauce. It shows that there is concern that the pubbies are on the wrong side of history here.

Indeed for Illinois. Most of Illinois on a congressional map is red but Chicago and the collar counties make up about 60% of the state's population. Plus college areas like Champaign and little urban areas like around Rockford or St Louis. Mainly Chicagoland though.

No idea about Iowa except that it's more liberal to the east and becomes more conservative the further west you go. So I'll credit the healing power of Illinois.

Nate Silver at 538 did an excellent description of the Illinois political geography before if you care enough to read it.

I've generally found this to be a fairly accurate map of the political landscape of Illinois and the surrounding states.

There have been many discussions amongst my family regarding the elimination of Pennsylvania and how much quicker trips to/from Ohio would be if the Keystone State didn't exist.

Don't get me wrong, I'm flattered but why all the sudden love for Ohio?

Iowa is relatively liberal, barring a bastion of very strong R control, low unemployment (5.2%), and they overturned separate but equal on a state level ~80 years before it was done on a federal level. Really, they've just been quick to pick up socially liberal movements.

This. Iowa has always been on the forefront of Civil Rights since our inception. We're just ******* awesome like that.

My parents came from Ohio, and most of both of their families stayed there. We spent a week in Galion twice a year for over twenty years.

Actually I've never made Ohio a destination but I've driven through it en route to Virgina. I can compliment it by saying it's not Indiana.

I know a ton of odd ducks (I mean that in the best possible way) that are either born and bred or went to college in Iowa. It must be in the beer.

Smiley: jawdropThat's my hometown! I moved in June of last year but that's where I was born and raised. If you went out drinking in the 80's did you go to Mugs Away, Red's or The Place in Gala Lanes?

Sorry for the hijack but this is the last place I expected to see my hometown brought up. It's only a little over 10k population.

Nah, I wasn't legal in the eighties; I was sneaking my parents' drinks back then. Used to bowl at Gala all the time as a kid though.

My father grew up in a big house on the corner of Church and Gill; my mom lived over on Park Ave. All the remaining family members have died or moved away so there's no reason (other than misplaced nostalgia) to go back to that place.
