I soooo want to see Avengers. There's a couple friends I want to go with, since we made a pact of sorts years ago when the first rumors of said film project started. I'm not sure if we'll be able to coordinate a viewing this weekend though. We'll see. My best friends wife's cousin just had a baby this morning (which sounds relatively remote when I write it down that way), so it's possible that they'll both be "busy" with family stuff this weekend, or it's possible that she will and he can join the three amigos on an Avengers run whilst the women folk talk babies and whatever it is they do. Never know.

Aside from that, my mom's church was selling a bunch of raffle tickets for some sort of car show on Saturday. I bought some (cause that's what you do for your mom), so I might just swing by for a couple hours and check out the cars that are there. If my mom's around, I'll swing by her house and hook up her digital antenna that I bough for her like a year and a half ago, and which apparently is still sitting in the box cause she wasn't sure how to hook it up (why she doesn't tell me these things, I don't know). I'm always a bit hesitant about doing stuff like this because inevitably there will be something wrong with her computer, and then there's this thing, and that thing, and pretty soon I'm explaining to her why she can't do certain things over her dialup connection that she's used for 15 years. But I'll do it anyway, cause that's what you do for your mom.

Oh. And it's finally not like misting and thinking about raining like it's been for the last 2 weekends, so a good car wash is in order!

Sunday will be slack day. Yes. I should be cleaning the house, but I'll probably stop at laundry and maybe doing a quick clean of the bathrooms (they kinda need it). I should really get the carpets steam cleaned or something, but my grand plan is to just replace them with hard wood anyway, so they still aren't cleaned. I should really get moving on that too. Sigh...

Sunday night is table top RPG night. We've finished with the ancient temple of ickiness and have now traveled to some other plane inhabited by tons of vampires (and werewolves apparently). Thousands of years of this and all the people are totally subservient to their vampire masters (who presumably keep them around for food). No one has any weapons or skills to use them and no one knows much beyond the village they live in (that we've seen so far). Makes the whole "pop up in a random place and then find some magical sword held by some powerful bad guy" kinda difficult when even the folks who'd like to help us out can't give us directions better than "there's other stuff we've heard of beyond the forest and the mountains". Gee... .thanks guys! I think we'll just go kill your local vampire lord instead. Maybe he's got a map or something. So much for our low key approach...

I'm also a bit concerned about the whole plot of what we're doing. So in ancient times, there was this powerful vampire god guy. The folks back then used magic to open up some portal and suck him, his army, and a large number of their own army into this other plane (and I'm hoping some of their descendants are around, but they're probably "beyond the forest, over the mountains... somewhere"), from which there's no return (supposedly). So there's another bad vampire guy, and he's found this magic urn that he can use to summon this super bad guy to our world. He's been filling the urn up with souls (which appears to be the requisite for this sort of thing) and there's nothing to stop him now. There's one weapon that can destroy the urn, but it was wielded by the leader of the army for the evil vampire god and got sucked into the same plane. So we're basically traveling to the very place where the main bad guy is and then returning with the weapon needed to stop him from returning as well. But what's to stop him from just say following us out? We used the equivalent of a magical stargate like thing to get here (just need to know the correct combination to open a portal). We had to teach that combination to some natives (the ones we helped by clearing out their old temple) to get us here, and we have some magical communication mirrors we'll use to tell them when we want to come back. But we know the minions of the bad guys know we're heading this way. They already intervened to send us off course once (changed out travel plans so we ended up a thousand miles or so away from where we wanted to go). There were indications at the portal thingie of a recent camp. What if they're just staking the place out and watching to see the combination and then after we leave, they'll just open it up pick up their buddies and come streaming out in a big ol vampire horde. Hell. What if the whole urn and magic sword story was just made up to get us to do this? Well, that would suck, wouldn't it?

Hopefully, that's not the case (or we can prevent it from being so). After all, we got the combination from the Goddess of Fate, Prophesy, and other "I can see everywhere and everywhen" sort of stuff, so if she's in on it, we're kinda screwed (or it was just meant to be I guess). Steadily marching onward I suppose!

I did ask. In other weekend related news, got a message from my sixty-something mother that she is leaving her current vacay accommodations because "they don't even have wireless". Angrybirds made her pretty techy-for a mom.

Those of you that don't have plans to see The Avengers this weekend need to change your plans. Now.

The Hulk totally stole the show.

I'm going out of my mind. My wife prefers to pirate crappy camcorder rips of new releases than pay for tickets; I'm having a hard time trying to justify going to see a movie when the car is wrecked and I have to get a new one.

Did you see it in 3D?

I'm probably going to see avengers sunday, possibly monday after work. Today i'm working on the CNC mill. I finally figured out my swarf covers which I had put off for the winter because it is frigging cold in my garage, so today i'm in fabrication mode. I ended up going with long industrial brush strips, which aren't ideal but its the only thing I can fit in the side space without rebuilding the middle of the gantry, which would be a Major Project, and something to be avoided if possible. I have all the parts finally for that too, so all things going well, the X axis should be done today, and the Y axis should be well on its way. Z axis I have a plan for, which will use more brushes and a flexible boot at the base. Definitly a few things I'll do differently someday when i build the larger 5 axis machine I have planned eventually.

Other than that, barbaque will happen here in a few minutes!

Three day weekend for me. I took a vacation day on Friday to have some work done on my car. I like the idea of getting paid to have my car fixed. Today, I saw The Avengers in 2D, (I hate those damn glasses) it was pretty good. Definitely a good way to start off the Summer movie season. I picked up Darksiders for five bucks from Amazon (damn you, Joph's thread!) so I've got that to play at some point. Tomorrow, if I'm feeling especially motivated, I may mow the grass and then get some Chinese food (I've been having cravings).

No, I hate 3D. But it was the **** in 2D. If your wife won't go, go alone. Seriously. You need to see this. Now.

It's been online for more than a week (movies2k.to had it, anyways), but it really is a theater movie. The 3D isn't "OMG!" like Avatar or even Transformers 3 & as I said in the movies forum, the Spider-Man preview in 3D was way more impressive than anything in Avengers.

That being said, it's great & you should see it so Marvel can use the money they're making off it to make more good movies. That & Disney needs to make back the money it lost on John Carter, heh.

Saw the Avengers twice already - on Friday by myself (couldn't wait) and on Saturday with friends. Definitely getting the Blu-Ray when it comes out. Ruffalo does a great job as Banner/Hulk - was excited to learn he has signed on for 6 Hulk movies.

Other than that, house cleaning in preparation for my dad's visit on Tuesday. He'll be house sittting and caring for my beasties while I go under the laser/knife for a hernia operation on Wednesday.

Watched some Netflix rentals - Despicable Me and How to Train Your Dragon. Both terrific.

Put some time in Rift while awaiting Diablo 3's release in a couple of weeks.

The kid did fantastic as Charlie AND due to the late end of the performance, no one came by after. Plus we had the house all cleaned on Saturday anticipating company so now we get to be lazy all day. Score!

I meant to get into DA:2 but then I had a 20 minute window a day ago and thought "What can I play in that small of a block? Hrrmm... I haven't fired up TF2 in a while..." Then I spent the weekend raging at scrub soldiers who think getting an uber is cause to go chase after some scout on the other side of the map Smiley: mad

Just how are they going to keep The Hulk even moderately interesting with 6 films? Will you really go to the movie every summer to see the Hulk smash up slightly better looking stuff in 3D?

He signed a six picture deal, not necessarily a deal for six solo Hulk movies. I'm sure he'll be in further Avengers movies, maybe one or two Hulk movies, possibly appearances in a Spider-Man movie or whatever.

I'm not so much worrying about the special effects (I can give a rat's *** about 3D films) - as long as there is a decent story to tell, I'll see it.

That was my thought too, but then again, I'd rather they keep the same actor playing him this time. Seeing as how he's the third guy to play Hulk in the last 10 years.

I wonder how that would work...three different studios license several different sets of Marvel characters...X-Men and Fantastic Four are Fox, Spider-Man is Sony and Avengers are now Disney (formerly Paramount). Crossing characters between those settings may require some legal wrangling. It would be nice to see the entire Marvel universe under one banner.

Chris Evans plays two different Marvel superheroes for two different studios. I wonder if the Human Torch and Captain America ever teamed up...

I saw avengers today. Definitly worth seeing, and the Hulk really did steal the show. Given that the Hulk movies are usually annoying, that was a welcome change. It was also the first time i've ever seen a 3d movie aside from the old red and blue glasses ones. That I was much less impressed with. the supposedly "new" pair of 3d glasses still in plastic had major scratches and fingerprints all over the lenses, which is a big issue for me, drives me absolutly insane to have even a little smudge on my windshield when i'm driving, so that sucked. Then for some reason, and maybe its just my wierd eyes, the screen sync seemed to lag alot of the time, especially towards the bottom of the screen. Like it was just a half a second out of sync of what it was supposed to be or something. At any rate, it was annoying and definitly not worth the supposed added benifit. At least it didn't give me a migraine though, which i was kind of worried about and was the primary reason I've never seen one of the newer 3D ones before this in the theaters.

I'll be sticking with 2D in the future though.

Comic books, boss. You'd find it more difficult to find two characters that haven't teamed up in some manner before.

When I watched the beginning of Captain America, I was thinking to myself, they didn't need to do any of that silly CG reimaging of Chris Evans' body to make him look skinny and pathetic. They could have just used me instead. That was almost exactly what I look like.
