The San Diego Fair (originally the Del Mar Fair) has released the vendors with their crazy foods. Like last year, I am planning on trying as many as I can. Now, what am I going to try?

Bacon-A-Fair
• Porkabello Kabob (bacon-wrapped, Gouda-stuffed portabello on a stick)
• Caveman Turkey Club (One pound of bacon wrapped around an extra large turkey leg)
• Manly Gourmet (two pieces of bacon wrapped around sausage stuffed with mushrooms, artichoke and smoked mozzarella)
• Meat Lovers Hot Dog on a Stick (deep-fried, beer-battered, bacon-wrapped hot dog)
• Baconshrooms (deep-fried, bacon-wrapped mushrooms)
• Half Pound Meat-On-Meat Dog (quarter-pound, all-beef dog wrapped with a quarter-pound of bacon)
• Porky Poppers (bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapeños)

Gingerbread House on the Avenue:
• Cookie Dough on a Stick

Chicken Charlie's on the Concourse near AgriFair:
• Deep-Fried Cereal
• Deep-Fried Pork Chops
• Deep-Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly

Del Mar Diner in Plaza de México:
• Buffalo Chicken Sliders: served on Hawaiian Bun, shredded lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing
• Chicken Fried Steak on a stick/mashed potatoes with Country-style sausage gravy
• French Fries with country-style gravy
• Deep-Fried Chili Asteroid: Award-winning homemade chili & cheese, deep-fried in a hush-puppy batter
• Flying Saucer Sopés: Deep-fried tortilla cake, topped with homemade chili, cheese, sour cream and green onions
• French Toast sticks with syrup dipping sauce
• Pie Fries: Deep-fried pie crust strips with strawberry preserves on the side
• Deep-Fried Tang

Pignotti's Pasta near O'Brien Hall and the Skyway:
• Bacon Pasta on a plate or in a bread bowl
• Bread Bowls (fill them with pasta or antipasto salad)

This is just a sampling of what's being offered. But I do believe that I will have to try the Pie Fries and everything from the Bacon-A-Fair.

I need to have a check up with my doctor before and after I do this.

All I had today for lunch was a salmon roll. Smiley: glare

This sounds good, but I've yet to find a place that does Buffalo sauce properly. Too many places think that Buffalo sauce = hot sauce.

A good buffalo sauce should, at the same time, be spicy, vinagery, salty, and buttery. I find a good starting ratio is half hot sauce, half butter, with 1 clove of finely minced garlic per 4 fluid ounces of sauce, and salt to taste.

Hmm, all I had for lunch was a Healthy Choice frozen thing, a cup of Greek yogurt, and a small apple. I'm feeling more than a little disappointed now. Also, I'm getting chest pains just from reading the bacon menu.

I'm imagining they take a jar of Tang mix, and dump it in the fryer.

Making an inedible mess.

I'm sure it's exactly like deep fried kool aid: Fried dough with the powdered mix as part of the dough.

I had entirely too many fried pickles for dinner thanks to this thread.

This thread is such a stark contrast with the way that the women of my office are trying to out-rabbit food each other at lunch right now. One of them might actually be gnawing on a piece of bark.

Bring in a steak and eat it at your desk while they chow on their celery sticks.

Good idea. I think I'll try to grill it with the toaster oven.

Just make sure that the entire office can smell your steak. Seeing someone eat steak is not that appetizing but that smell.... hmmmmmm.

This reminds me of a story, so won't y'all grab a glass of sweet tea, pull up a rockin' chair, and sit a spell.

I have always loved to read. My appetite for books has actually gone down as I got older (and discovered girls and video games, not necessarily in that order), but I still put away a book a month at least. When I was a pre-teen, my parents signed me up for this club that would mail me a new book every month. They weren't super long novels and they were mostly geared towards pre-teens, but I loved them.

My favorite one was about a boy who wanders off from the campsite his parents are at and gets lost in the woods. The boy only manages to survive because he figures out how to make a fire by gluing the lenses of his glasses together with tree sap with some water in between them so he can focus the rays of the sun better. When I was forced to get glasses around the age of 12, my sole consolation was that if I ever got lost in the woods, I could start a fire with the lenses.

No way. Eat a dish of pasta, some tortilla chips or a mountain of fries. Women on diets crave empty carbs.
