I kinda wish he was, though. Imo, the game could have used one more mage and rogue companion. You have 4-5 warrior options, with 3 standard Warriors (no DW option), and then Dog/Shale, who have the Warrior core talents with unique specs.

But for Mages you only have Morrigan and Wynne who, depending on your choices, might not even be available in the final stretch of the game. Though this isn't TOO big an issue, since the two are opposites, and most roleplayers probably wouldn't lose both. If you are going to kill the mages/defile the Urn, you probably won't be opposed to sexing up Morrigan.

Leliana and Zevran are a bigger issue for me. Primarily because an "aggressive" character might kill Zevran, thinking he would betray you (as he might), then defile the ashes to cause Leliana to turn. They could at least have given Shale the ability to smash open chests. XD

I think the life lesson here is that, if you're going to act like a ****, you'll have less friends. I'd find it sillier to be set up with a League of Evil dedicated to stopping the Blight.

I don't understand why there wasn't a "force lock" try if you didn't have a rogue with you where you could try to break a lock open.

If you have a PC, there's a mod for attempting to break/ensorcell a lock open with a risk of destroying the sweet, sweet loot inside.

By "sweet loot", I of course mean the grey iron dagger and Froststone you typically find after getting Rank IV lockpicking and returning to that chest you couldn't open two towns ago.

Protip: if you're worried about "party balance", just roll a mage and grab all of the crowd control spells (force field, crushing prison, etc.). You can let the rest of the party run around naked, and you'll still probably have to bump up the difficulty.

But, but... I like to blow stuff up. Smiley: frown I think that might be part of my issue. I do try to make a concerted effort to stay behind Alistair so I don't get myself killed, but I much prefer blowing stuff up than worrying about CC. I just need a 5th party member so I can stick Morrigan in there and she can do all that stuff.

There's a mod that lets you add a fifth slot specifically for your dog, although he doesn't get to banter then. Smiley: frown

When DA:O came out, my PC couldn't have run it. Could have bought the ultimate edition for the PC, I suppose, but it just seemed like lost work at that point. Maybe I'll grab it next time it comes on sale.

So here's an interesting twist. If you use the mod to unspec Morrigan (or I assume anyone else) you lose the shapeshifter spec, and can't get it back until you unlock it normally. Of course, you can just revert to a previous save, but an interesting consequence.

Huh. That is interesting. How do you get it back? She's the only one I've noticed who could train it.

I imagine the script for her to train it isn't actually attached to her having the spec. To unlock it for a Mage anyway, you needed her to train you. So even if you removed her shapeshifting ability, she's still going to be able to teach it, and still going to use it in one particular potential cutscene.

Because I prefer console gaming. I find relaxing on my couch and using a controller to be much more comfortable than sitting at my desk using my keyboard. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the 360 version and the PC version is the way the menu and hot keys work. Yeah, it's annoying only having 6 abilities easily at my disposal, but it's not that hard to bring up the menu and access my other abilities.

You also have much less control over tactical combat, limited/no modding capability, don't have the ability to go through lists easily, and frankly zounds of other things.

Use a TV as your monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse and you can still lounge on a couch.

Console gaming just feels like crippling yourself.

Ok, the fade wasn't so bad once I got all of the forms. Starting a combat with riposte/flurry, golem form, quake/slam, spirit form, prison/ice, golem form was pretty awesome.

Zevran was a wuss. Took him out first try, but some of the Chantry quests have given me fits. Until I stopped charging in and started creeping into the combats and picking enemies off one at a time with ranged.

I need to run some of the Chantry/Mage/Mercenary quests. I just never think of doing so but sometimes it's nice to just step off the plot-train for a bit.

Zevran being a wuss reminds me of why else I never use him (although I assume you meant your first meeting, not him an NPC). He's set up as a melee rogue but has shitty armor (and no STR to wear better) and the game doesn't know what to do with melee rogue AI. So using him in your party requires constant babysitting as opposed to Leliana's archery or the warriors' point-and-go mob bashing. Wynne comes preprogrammed as a heal bot and Morrigan is easy enough to set for CC and damage. Team tactics are an important part of the game but I don't want to spend the whole time micromanaging a single NPC to make him effective.

This is really the biggest problems. Properly specced DW Rogues put out a ridicoulous amount of damage, but the game makes no attempt to maximize the amount of time they spend backstabbing.

This.
I bought DA:O for PS3 because my PC couldn't run it. By the time I had a PC that could run it, I figured I may as well buy the DLCs, Awakenings and DA2 for PS3 as well so as to import my saves. I might grab it for PC next time I feel like playing it, but I've got such a backlog of games at this point that I don't see it happening for a while.

Ha-ha, you paid for Witch Hunt.

Edit: Also, nice picture. It looks like Morrigan grew 12 years younger, ate a bunch of ice cream sandwiches and hit herself in the face with a trash can lid.
