As a Mormon currently living in Utah, I am thoroughly disgusted by this bill. I believe that comprehensive *** education is key to preventing teen pregnancies and STDs. Of course, I grew up in Los Angeles, so I am much moire liberal-minded than other people of Utah.
As far as the Utah culture is concerned, *** is evil. At least that is the impression I get from the Mormons who were born and raised here. It's like they believe that even talking about ***, is an abomination to the Lord. I read Utah parents saying, "No school is going to teach MY children about ***. I'm going to teach them about ***." The problem is, they never do. Case in point: My husband. His parents never talked about *** and what little education he received from school, didn't even cover how to put a condom on. I had to teach him how to do that.
We already decided to be open about *** with our children. Our motto is, "If they are old enough to ask, they are old enough for scientific answers." My three-year-old already knows the difference between boys and girls. I hope, that by teaching her when she's ready, she will never be afraid or embarrassed to ask me questions.
In addition to this bill, the governor has already stated that he will ignore all Facebook, online petitions, and social media sites calling for him to veto this bill. He has more or less stated that only the people who call or write a letter will be heard from.
I just wish there was a separation between church and state here.
