From what I understand, anesthesia is very fickle and some people just experience a completely unanticipated reaction to it (i.e. simply can't be woken up after the procedure). I don't know how common this is, but given that they ask if you're prepared before the procedure, I'd guess it's common enough (maybe 1-2%)?

Advice: Don't go into the light.

I wouldn't sweat the anesthesia. I gather that the common experience with it isn't anything to worry about. Maybe some nausea, but all things considered, that's really nothing much.

Hey, just a few centuries ago, we'd be chopping the offending body part off of you, plus an extra 10 inches or so just to be safe, and you'd have to content yourself with some whiskey and a piece of wood to bite on!

Sometimes it's hard to tell when someone is coming or going.

Yeah, I've been under a few times and it was noneventful. The most amusing part (to me) is when they ask you to count back from ten. My mind is always thinking "Pfftt.. whatever" and by the time I reach seven I'm waking up in some strange room with my pants missing.

I just had Novocaine for wisdom teeth removal. It really wasn't enough. It was more painful and discomforting than having babies.

Only thing I learn to worry about when going under, is them insisting you can blow hard enough to get the ball to stay up in the air before you can go home.

No one ever told me that their are breathing exercises you can do before surgery to make this easier. Jonwin was given a whole set of exercises to do before his surgery tomorrow. We have to be up by 4am and be there at 5:30, for surgery is at 7:30. Thankfully they have a very nice waiting room with free coffee.

He only seem nervous that they would postpone the surgery due to paperwork snafu that they caused Monday. Since they called to tell us what time to be there and when the surgery is schedule, everything looks good. I just need to pack some clothes for the weekend, as I'm not about to face traveling by bus to and from the hospital for his PT sessions they want me to attend as his coach. I also don't want to miss the luncheon on Saturday they are having for the patients and coaches.

Teeth cleaning with release? I always wondered about those dual dentist office/massage parlors.

Yikes! They had to hack and slash at my mouth to get mine out so it was pretty involved.

The sinus surgery itself was easy; the part where they pulled the sinus packing material out through my nose wasn't so easy. You know the clown trick where the clown pulls a never ending scarf out of his sleeve? Imagine that, but with my nose, not a sleeve. You know it's going to be bad when the doc starts with "I'm not going to lie; this is going to hurt."

I've never woken up nauseous or dizzy. Maybe a little groggy, but that wears off in a few minutes, like waking up in the morning.
