Since what could have been an interesting weekend thread got itself nuked, let's go with this one. My plans are light exercise, lots of family time, and monthly weapon maintenance. Gotta clean them up for next month when I go out to the range and test/qualify with them. A lot of fun.

This weekend I'm mostly brainstorming. I need to come up with a Physics based talk, which would be interesting to laymen, but still be advanced enough not to bore the crap out the academic staff present. FFFUUUU...

Also joining the local sports centre. I'm going to start swimming again, because I've somehow blown up to 95kg, which is about 205lbs. I are fat, basically. Kind of sick of it!

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but have any of you attempted to lose weight while also being a smoker? Is it advantageous or detrimental?

That reminds me of the time that my brother wrote an essay explaining the principles of the coefficient of friction by using the case study of the time I pushed him down the stairs in a cardboard box when he was 5.

I have to think that it'd be easier to lose weight if you quit smoking, but you probably wouldn't see those effects until a while after quitting. I don't actually know how long it takes before you start noticing healthier lung function.

I went to train yesterday, as per that discussion in the other thread. Threw up halfway through the session! (In the bathroom, thankfully). I'm definitely out of shape, though thankfully it isn't really outwardly apparent. Going again today...my goal is to throw up exactly 1 less time.

I can't imagine it being detrimental, though I think there would be added difficulty. I know when I quit, I gained about 15 pounds. But I wasn't really trying not to at the time.

Smokers have a vice that already keeps their attention, so I'd say its actually advantageous. You try to both lose weight and quit smoking and you're going to mess one of them up. A few of the smokers around here, wanting to quit started to eat more for example. Work on one at a time.

It's very common to gain weight after quitting smoking. I don't know if there's a change in metabolism or digestive functions, or if it's just a matter of oral fixation.

Put the different, contextually obvious dates in the thread title and you've basically got it. Looked like sockpuppetry related to the recent lamentations that the Asylum's lost its juevos.

It got killed right when it looked like it was about to go somewhere fun.

Yeah, and speaking for me, I used to eat less when I smoked. If I was hungry, and smoked a cig, it usually abated for a while. Lots of times I would skip at least one meal a day because of that. Once I quit, I couldn't satisfy that urge with a smoke.

That and the oral part.

mmmmmm..... oral

My weekend will be spent helping Jonwin do things, he normally would be able to do with his right hand.

It also means he will be driving me nuts, and may have to live in the same clothes all weekend.

For myself I've found out that I can get copies of New Yorker articles for free from my library online and download them. I have added my request for Diane Keaton's new book, to the other 22 people who have put it on hold. Thankfully I have Sir Terry Pratchett's latest DiskWorld book Snuff to finish and two David Drake first 2 books to read in the Books of Elements series to fill my reading time.

That is full the time I want to hide from Jonwin, while he recovers from wrist and arm surgery.

Some troll post regarding 9/11 and how we're all sheeple. It quickly morphed into the Friday thread, but since it got nuked, here ya go.

As for me, homework and playoff football will probably be my entire agenda. If I'm lucky I'll get a little Skyrim in. I finally started getting into it this past week, and I'm getting sucked in. Though I think I already hosed my character build.

My brother's being a ******* and needs to grow up before he ruins more than just his own life, and that's all I have to say about that.

I'm going to a LAN tonight, which should be fun. Trying to reset my sleep schedule to something normal; I woke up at 8 AM today for the first time in a few months. Yuck. Playing a big benefit for a kid with brain cancer on Monday, which is going to be incredible. 13 of the best bands from all over Knoxville will be there for like 10 hours. Super cool.

We made sure to have as much carnal knowledge we would handle Wednesday, to make up for the fact that he's in too much pain to handle it now.

Meanwhile I have my toys to keep me happy.

Lung functionality is noticeably better within days, week at most, after quitting smoking. You will workout harder if you're jonesing for a smoke but you may also eat more. The trick is to make those extra snacks healthier foods.

I highly recommend doing both at once. It's much easier to quit smoking while exercising than it is while sitting on the couch.

Side effect of the guy getting himself banned. It mysteriously reappeared somehow. I blame mimes.

The crazy 9-11 theory one.

I think the major project for this weekend will be re-plumbing part of the aquarium. The secondary filter has been out of action for a while, and now I've got all the replacement parts, so its probably time to fix it. That and the new video card won't get here until Monday (I ended up going with a 3GB 580 GTX, on theory that I can add a second one later and have it run circles around a 580 GTX at half the price). Also going to retrofit the water cooling system with quick disconnect fittings on everything. It will be nice to actually work on things without all the extra tubes in the way.

I also found a set of snow tires for my car finally, with rims, so I'm going to go pick those up at some point.

It's supposed to rain this weekend starting tonight so our plans to do yardwork and clean the garage out are postponed. I think I'm going to take Ray out to dinner Saturday night so he'll put out.

One of these days I'll crawl out of my cave and come see you play. I could walk downtown from where I live. I'm right across the river, down from the Gay St. bridge, off Chapman.

Sounds like a good plan for the weekend to me.

And my weekend will consist of frantically cleaning my place tomorrow and spending the evening and Sunday getting dirty.

If you're attempting to lose weight in a healthy manner then just do that. Over-all you'll presumably be healthier. Maybe the exercise will curtail some of the smoking ftw. Smiley: clown

You definitely should! I do most of my playing out west, though. The downtown circle is a bit hard to break into without knowing a bunch of people.
