Just built me a new PC i7 2600, 8GB DDR3 1600, 120GB SSD, front USB3 ports (not cause I need them, just cause I can). Windows 7 installed in 8 minutes...
Still using my GTS250 but considering I'm coming from an E4400 to an i7 2600 with an SSD the difference is just rediculous. I'm cold to idleing desktop in about 12 seconds (I'm sure that'll increase as I add junk at startup).

Yeah, I held off due to the price, but the next machine I get will have a SSD. Which will probably be in February. As I understand it the new processors are coming out in March, so I'm hoping there will be some clearance sales going on in Feb.
Some people are like slinkies, they aren't really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

You should have gone with a bigger SSD. I was taking a look at them today and there is just no way that 120 would be large enough. I've got about 80 gig of installed files now. Add a few games to that and there goes your space pretty quick.
I was thinking the same. Maybe a second drive for stored files? Are MBs these days compatible with both types of storage drives?

Yeah, to the motherboard it's just a SATA 6GB/s connection, it has no idea what's actually hooked up to the other end of it so long as it accepts that same cable.

256Gb SSD's are doable. still more expensive than they should be, but in the obtainable range.
6GB / sec and 3 GB / sec SATA drives use the same physical connector. a 6GB / sec drive plugged into a 3 GB / sec controller will just clock back to 3GB. Honestly, SSD's are the only drive on the planet that can even push the limits of a 6GB / sec connector at the moment, but that speed boost is definitly worth it.

I just ordered a new PC myself! (well, the parts for one)Got the i5 2400, 8GB DDR3 1600, GeForce GTX 560 Ti, that sort of thing. I was eyeballin' a SSD, but I really wanted to keep the price under 700 bucks.

Case has top mounted HD docks, which can be handy but mostly I like the front mounted USB3 port and it's just the right size for where I keep it.

That bad eh? First SSD, I've had good experiences with their other products.
Anyone know of a good backup program? Something like rsync (linux) perhaps? Preferably free, not because I'm cheap, but because I could just use windows backup. I just don't really like how windows backup tries to create full backups rather than just transferring any new/updated files.

Yeah, SWTOR loads ridiculously fast now and no slowdowns between areas. How much of that is the new processor and faster memory I don't know, but the loading screens are nearly non-existent now (it's the only game I have on the SSD so I have nothing to compare it too).

Personally, I was looking at the 256 gb Samsung drive on NewEgg. It only has a few reviews though, so I'm a bit leary.

We ended up having to repeatedly RMA an entire batch of OCZ DDR2 ram sticks, all 100 of them for multiple failures. And then the RMA'd sticks. We've also had a 100% failure rate on the 10 thumb drives we bought from them about 2 years ago. I'll never buy anything they make again...

They just started making SSD's but early reviews seem decent. I went with a Crucial SSD for my machine personally, it runs great!

Unbelievable. The $30 mail-in rebate for my SSD is only redeemable as an American Express gift card...
I live in Canada. Almost no-one accepts American Express up here...if I hadn't spent so much time on this thing I'd take it back to the damn store out of spite.

Yes I'm in a city and most places I shop do NOT take Amex. I'll be able to spend it obviously, I'm just ******** about the ridiculousness of receiving a damn prepaid credit card as a rebate. I've used these before, they're a pain in the *** unless you spend the entire amount in one purchase. They don't work like a gift card you have to know the exact amount remaining on the card to use it up or they decline like a credit card that's short on funds. I still have a Visa one with a few dollars on it, I will never use it because I don't know exactly how much is on it. These cards are great for the credit card companies.
