"We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." — James D. Nicoll
My husband's phone has speech to text also, but for the longest he went without "training" it. So, you can imagine its confusion when someone with a deep east TN drawl tried to talk to it. I think sometimes at night, I still hear it crying.

Let me do voice to text speech. I was able to post all of this using my voice alone. That's all

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!

what's funny is that I actually think I probably could on my phone, too, I just don't know how

My new phone gets zero bars/no service here at home. If I go 20 or 30 yards away, I can get some service. Would buying a high end booster work? Because it's a pre-paid phone on the sprint network, it looks like using microcell internet type tower is not an option.

It's Sprint; you're screwed. My wife and I can't use our own cellphones at home either.

The powered cell boosters made for sprint network will work, but they have an unfortunate tendancy to lock up every couple weeks, requiring a reset. until you reset them, the ones we have used anyways tend to act like cell phone jammers rather than boosters. The exterior antenna placement is also critical. if it says 26 foot vertical seperation between the antenna and the base, 15.9 feet isn't going to cut it.
The femtocells are much more forgiving if your carrier has one available.
I heart my Samsung Galaxy SII. I can do the same thing. I can't wait when/if I get to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. Google has the coolest names for their Android OS versions.

No, it sensed her amusement and inserted the emoticon on its own.
This.
That would be awesome.
I was thinking of getting one of those models. I haven't upgraded my phone in over 3 years, and I've been holding off on a smart phone because I'm loathe to start paying an extra $30 a month for it.

Seriously, the extra $30 for a data package is probably the best money spent because I tend to save a lot more time without having to go to my comp to check email and do other things that I can do on my phone on the fly. The only danger is when you start using your phone for work-related things because at that point, you'll start working around the clock.
Maybe I'll just get Vonage, since I do need to be reached at home. The phone my mom got me is great, other than the lace of service at home, and I'd hate to see her gift wasted.

We used to have Vonage and it works great. Right now we're using Comcast's home phone service and the only reason we have that is because we got that package and it's cheaper this way.
We've bundled everything into AT&T to get the discount and with Ray's job, we get a government discount on top of that. And since we've got the grandfathered in unlimited data package for our cell phones, we are not switching to anything otherwise we lose the unlimited data.
